Q: iPad 2 upgrade to iOS 8 causing performance issues?

I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 8 and it's now no longer functioning quickly enough to be usable.  For example, it takes several seconds for the screen to simply shift from portrait to landscape.  The delay in typing alone makes it unusable.  Anyone else having the same problem?  I tried to reinstall iOS 7 but wasn't successful.  Anyone figure out how to fix this?

    Saw this on another thread

Much better after I did the following

settings...General.  Accessibility.  Turn on reduce motion..

Better, but not perfect.  Support have told me that I need to restore my iPad2.  Not sure i like the sound of that but probably no other option as it can't go on like this.

Apple needs to have an appropriate response to the issues. Like everyone that has an iPad 2, I also have severe performance issues with iOS 8.0.2. While 8.0.2 did improve performance on my iPad and the other iPads I have tested it on, the performance does not come anywhere close to the performance of iOS 7.

The performance improvements of iOS 8.0.2 over iOS 8.0 are proof that the performance issues ARE correctable by Apple without the need to reload OS. As a computer geek by trade, I fully understand the expectation of some sacrifice in performance for the latest feature set. I also expect Apple (who have classically done this) to not allow products, that will not perform, to load the latest operating systems. Apple has done this with every one of their products, from the Apple TV to the Mac Pro systems.

I am sorry to say that I am disappointed with Apple on this release, and consider it to be quite the black eye.

I've contacted Apple but was told since my Apple care coverage has expired I would have to pay $19 just to chat with someone. I've got lots of bookmarks, etc saved on my iPad and if I do a restore, I will lose some things that are important to me. I hope if I do this, it helps, and I am not wasting my time.

I'm in the UK and I was told I'd have to pay £25 but then there was another button next to that (sorry, can't remember what it was) and I eventually managed to chat to someone for free.  Whilst this guy was helpful he came to the conclusion that the only way forward was to restore which I am nervous of doing given that iOS8 seemed to lose all of my historical appointments in the Calendar app and I'm nervous of what a restore may do, even though I have backed up my iPad.  Apple need to do a fix.  Other threads similar to this are also saying Apple need a fix which is not "do a restore".

I, too, am having many problems with my iPad 2 which, until the IOS 8 (and 8.2) upgrade worked perfectly.  Now it loads slowly, if at all.  Typing is at times impossible because of lag time.  I never thought I'd be putting aside my iPad for work and pleasure, but life is too short to work with it as it is now.  I do hope Apple with get a fix very, very soon.

SSame with my iPad 2 since updating to ios8, I'm not risking 8.02 in case it kills it off Completely. Safaris the worse. Ridiculous keyboard lag at times, unusable. Often wont load 'images' & can't upload at all. Freezes. I had partial success with Puffin re uploading images & it was faster but even that won't upload images now ive tried re booting & resetting everything possible, nothing has helped.

While it would be spectacular if a restore would actually fix the issues, alas, it is not so. This is a problem at the OS level itself. No amount of reloading of the system is going to fix the performance problems.

If you reload iOS 7, the issues will be gone, but that's not the core issue.

How do you reload iOS7?  I'd rather have that than the current piece of rubbish.

Before I even knew I had the other issues I restored my iPad3..twice!....because I lost all my pictures....but the issues of; blank black apps loading, slow loading, apps freezing, multitasking gestures not working, motion portrait to landscape (or vice versa) is slow, wifi cutting out, iCoud account password rejected on iPad but not iPhone. I may have missed a few issues.. these are major! Restore did not do anything for these!!

Not fair Apple....if your trying to get us to buy new devices! It's a turn off!

Issue with 8.0.2 on iPad 2 occurs when entering agreements in an "open form".  The keystrokes are slow and delayed, many times freezing the safari screen.  My iPad even froze up trying to log in and search for a topic in Apple Support Communities. Overall performance is very poor.
