Oct 22, 2014 6:23 PM in response to msmaronby Shabbypink123,HHas it helped your iPad? It hasn't done much for my iPad 2. My daughter has had no problems with her iPad 3 At all.

Oct 22, 2014 6:27 PM in response to Darkahnby danjimcol,I agree! If the IPad worked like this when I was considering buying one, I wouldn't have. My hyperlinks in Safari no longer work at all. I would say that my IPad is close to useless!

Oct 22, 2014 6:39 PM in response to gtwscwby Shabbypink123,Tech question. Has anyone who has installed the 8.1 update on their iPad 2 noticed any improvement, if so dId you restore from backup, or did you do a complete reset, started new?

Oct 22, 2014 6:52 PM in response to Star Travelerby Darkahn,I have a few points to make regarding your statements.
1. I am absolutely certain that there are some people that will state that doing x, y, or z will help any situation. This does not mean that I will experience the same thing, and as such I will not agree with them.
2. Have you considered the possibility that some people think that you might be spreading falsehoods about the capability of iOS 8? No matter how many times, or in any way can I get iOS 8 to perform half as well as iOS 7. It does not matter if I load it fresh and new or not. So in that sense it is not a matter of opinion for me to say that iOS 8 does not help the performance issues. In this thread I do not recall a single person save you, that state that ios 8 has not caused a performance hit on the older devices. Even if it is only minor.
All i I ask is that you consider the plight of others before you accuse them of lying.

Oct 22, 2014 6:57 PM in response to Briansyddallby Darkahn,I have installed 8.1 and I am currently waiting on it to restore my backup. It appears that it may be slightly faster than the previous build, but I am reserving opinion until the restore is complete. It takes about a week for the restore process to finish on my device.

I've always posted that there are a variety of problems and that there are a variety of solutions, and that not all or any solution will work for any one particular person. And then if "no solutions" work for someone (as this is only "users helping other users" and nothing more), then they are to go to Apple Support where they are willing and able to help people. I make sure people know that "this" (here on this forum) is NOT Apple Support and that they should never think of it as Apple Support and that they should never even think that they are going to get any answers here.
That ... what I said up above ... is my position on the matter.
2. Have you considered the possibility that some people think that you might be spreading falsehoods about the capability of iOS 8? If I were the only person saying that this is the case, then I would say that other people can have that idea. However, there are countless people saying that iOS 8.1 is working perfectly fine for them (and improved their performance) plus the ones who had initial problens and are NOW saying iOS 8.1 is working perfectly for them. So, I'm not the one who is saying that. I am ... however ... the one who is "relaying" that information to other users here, when I post that (from other posters). But, they can easily see that for themselves, by reading through every post, and see that there are others saying that iOS is working perfectly for them.
All i I ask is that you consider the plight of others before you accuse them of lying.
That statement (from the other user, not you) is a flat-out lie ... plain and simple. Now ... it wouldn't be a lie, if the person said this ... "iOS 8.1 does not improve performance for me." But, that is not what was said, and thus that's why it's not only misleading, it's a plain and outright lie!
One can go onto multiple threads here and see that others have said it does improve performance. And, once again, just because it has improved performance for many others, does not guarantee it will improve performance for "all users". And just because one solution has worked for many people, and another solution has worked for many others, and then, yet again, another solution has worked for many more - it does not mean it's going to work for "everyone" or even "any one particular person". I've always said that.

Oct 22, 2014 8:00 PM in response to Star Travelerby MarknMikel,I know what this is...users helping users feed. Done the official thing, on the phone, on line, in store! And after resetting up as new iPad and hours of reloading my apps..but still had the same issues....so then I was told to wait for the kinks to be ironed out..in every situation..every time by the apple person. So I'm waiting. But I keep hearing and reading to do a reset, or go to support, done both already, didn't fix anything, so to help other users not to waste their time, I am mentioneing it. That's all. Just wait. Or go get a Microsoft tablet! Feedback page had no send feedback button, it stopped working all of a sudden..I wonder why...mentioned this earlier so read earlier posts...may be working now..but over it all...and so now I wait! And how are others to know, (others being the ones who can help), what help is needed to be given, if the ones with the probs do not vent/air/share the issues they are having..and are still having? Anyway...enough of this back and forth, I dont want to say the last word or be right, I just want my iPad to work right..they way it use to! So I wAit! (Stupid uppercase phantom again!!) and wanted to explain myself, seeing that you found it important to reply to some of my sentences! Let's enjoy the wait now.

Oct 23, 2014 2:26 AM in response to Shabbypink123by Alfred DeRose,I went from iOS 8 GM directly to 8.0.2 and did that upgrade as a new device. For 8.1, I was lazy and restored from backup using iTunes, not an OTA upgrade. I have some minor lag when compared to iOS 7.1.2 and that I accept given the iPad 2 is the oldest supported device. But for the most part, I am quite happy with my iPad 2 on iOS 8.

Oct 23, 2014 2:55 AM in response to gtwscwby Briansyddall,Try a reboot press & hold power button & menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo you will not lose any data. Ipad 2 is a bit under powered to run ios 8 Bsydd uk

Oct 23, 2014 3:42 AM in response to Alfred DeRoseby Shabbypink123,II did update mine and it still has some issues, but it is a bit better. Sometimes links do not work, some lagging, still getting the random double letters and random captitalizations, but I guess this is what I get for jumping the bandwagon and Not waiting until I saw what issues others have been having. I only wish I could revert to iOS 7. I have taken such good care of my iPad 2 and it still looks new, no scratches, dings, etc so it would last me as long as possible, since they are costly and not easily afforded for me. I will continue to use it even though it is now not as good as it was before the update, but will save up for a Microsoft tablet. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and words of advice. Best of luck to all, hopefully Apple gives a good solution that will make all happy.

Oct 23, 2014 10:53 AM in response to Shabbypink123by Darkahn,My iPad did finish restoring last night on 8.1. This is an improvement of 3 days from the restore previously done on 8.0.2. The usability has improved incrementally. I am still not happy with the performance, but I will classify it as usable now.
Regarding competitors tablets, keep in mind that you are not guaranteed any better luck with their hardware and future upgrades. Should you purchase a Microsoft Surface, or other Windows based tablet, yes, your performance will be better than you have now. On the flip side, if you were to purchase a new iPad your performance would be better there as well.
Apple has classically done a far better job of using the necessary hardware with their systems to provide a good experience than any of the competitors. This is the reason that I use Apple tablets, and also the reason I am so very disappointed with the release of iOS 8 for the iPad 2.

Oct 24, 2014 12:09 PM in response to Huntawayby Star Traveler,Glad to hear that! I've lost track, now, for how many people have successfully taken care of their problem from answers on this forum, whether it be from me or several other people! People are doing well on iOS 8!
It's good you're back on board again.

Oct 24, 2014 1:08 PM in response to msmaronby Star Traveler,Mine has been working fine all along, but others have used the reset to factory default, with great success, to take care of their problem. Be sure to do it using your iTunes program, as that sets it up as a new system. And, the latest you would have been able to upgrade to is iOS 8.1, as iOS 8.2 is not out yet. Also, be sure to do your backups! The last article below is the one for setting it to factory default with iTunes.
