Q: iPad 2 upgrade to iOS 8 causing performance issues?

I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 8 and it's now no longer functioning quickly enough to be usable.  For example, it takes several seconds for the screen to simply shift from portrait to landscape.  The delay in typing alone makes it unusable.  Anyone else having the same problem?  I tried to reinstall iOS 7 but wasn't successful.  Anyone figure out how to fix this?

I Did this from my desktop. I can't even copy and paste now from my iPad. Tech support is out of the question for me, as my Apple Care warranty has expired. What now, Apple? I won't be buying any more Apple products if this is how they take care of their customers. Maybe it is time to look into a Samsung or Microsoft tablet.

800-275-2273 Apple support phone number. At the very least ask them who to call or email to make a formal complaint, if you haven't already done so. Hoping   Apple will do something for us.

Yeh..me too, went on my desktop, iPad is useless, thats how I got the screen shots...I think apple removed the submit button from the feedback page because they have been getting way too many complaints! So now we wait for Apple to fix this. I have started to look into a Microsoft tablet, it will work well with my Microsoft desktop! :/

Yes I think Apple should allow the roll back to iOS 7 on the iPad 2 as this device clearly cannot cope with iOS 8

What's going on - I thought that I was the only one.  I had heard (via reddit) that the ipad 2 wasn't displaying any performance issues; however, my ipad has also been rendered effectively dead.

I've got the 8.0.2 running on an iPad 2 (64 gb/wifi/cell).  It is slow and crashing.  Tried a hard reset, didn't help.

I Agree, the new upgrade is like going back to dial up. Apple needs to address this issue, or maybe they just want you to buy buy buy the next big thing.

I called the support help line and they were able to give some help.  My safari  frozen immediately after the upgrade to 8.0.2.    Go to settings>Safari> turn off safari in your app list. Then open the safari listed under your mail, reminders, messages and face time (closer to the top of the list).    Scroll down  the right side to Clear history and Website data, Then turn the I-pad off.  Restart.  My search engine is working again!  I can't assume that this will fix all problems; but, I'm better now than I was a couple of hours ago.

The contract on my Samsung Galaxy 3 is up this month and I had been considering moving to iPhone 6.  Was also considering trading out my Sony VAIO for a MacBook Pro. This disaster with ios 8 that has rendered my iPad2 nothing more than a fancy paperweight has convinced me that Apple is not a suitable replacement for either product. Thankfully I didn't make the switches and saved myself untold grief and lots of money.

Same here.... IOS 8 made my IPAD 2 useless. IOS 8.2 didn't do anything about that. Still useless.

Everything is going downhill at apple:

    - apple store in Germany: support ***** kinda like that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJQ3TM-p2QI

    - Ipad....well you know

    - new Iphone has many functions that just wouldn't work

...... my company already changed away from apple.... I am still hoping they will make the "turn around"

I Think they are working on it.  Sad that a company like this can make this kind of kindergarten mistakes.  Not everyone has money to out and replace their iPads.  I am going to give it a few more weeks to see if they at least try to fix the issues of speed and keyboard issues.  Wish there had been more warning, I made the mistake of believing that the 8 was an improved version.

I too am having all these problems after upgrading to ios 8.  It seems obvious to me that the iPad 2 doesn't have a fast enough processor to deal with ios 8 and so the upgrade shouldn't have been made available. My iPad 2 is now virtually unusable and all because of Apple - it is in perfect condition otherwise.

I assume the reason Apple has discontinued 'signing the certificate' for ios 7.1.2 is to force iPad 2 users to purchase a newer iPad, but I think this is both foolish and unacceptable - it's quite possible that it will force me to purchase an alternative tablet to get away from this disgraceful practice.

All could be put right if Apple to re-instated the signing of a 7.1.2 certificate for the iPad 2 so we could revert back to that version of the operating system.  Is there any way we could organise ourselves into a pressure group to request this - or does anyone know if it is possible for an Apple shop to override the certificate issue if we took our iPads into a store?

APPLE - if you read this can you please listen and have some sympathy, and also recognise the severe damage this is doing to your reputation.  PLEASE HELP US BY RESTORING OUR ABILITY TO REVERT TO IOS 7.1.2 ON THE IPAD 2.
