ipod video 5th gen won't go into disc mode or reset or anything but show a dim apple logo! PLEASE help!

I have a 30gb white iPod video 5th generation. I thought maybe the battery was just low because it was showing a dim apple logo so I charged it all night. This morning it's still just showing that dim logo. When I plug it into my computer it doesn't show up. I tried putting it into disc mode by holding select menu and then select play right when it's about to show the logo again but nothing happens. I tried the same thing with select ffw, select rrw, and rrw, ffw but nothing resets it or puts it into disc mode. I also toggled the hold button every time before doing any of those. When I do select menu and then select rrw it goes black and doesn't show the logo but doesn't reset either. I'm so frustrated and when I chatted with the apple person they said I'd have to pay $19 for them to try and help me and even then they might not find a solution so I'm praying someone on here might know what to do to help 😟

Try a basic Reset first.

1. Turn the Hold key on, then off again and press-and-hold the Menu and Select (Centre) buttons until the logo disappears. That should take no more than ten seconds. The logo will reappear and then it should disappear yet again and the iPod should boot up. Apple suggest you try this up to three times before deciding that it will not work.

2. If the above doesn't work and the logo is still showing, I suggest you leave the iPod unplugged until the logo disappears. Providing you have left it unplugged, the logo will disappear when the battery drains down. At this point, the iPod can do nothing because it has no power. When this happens, plug the iPod into power and charge it up again.

3. Do not sit and watch the iPod and then plug it in the second the logo turns off. That won't work. Just leave it alone and when you go back to it and find the display blank, plug it into power again. It may take up to thirty minutes before you see anything happen,. After thirty minutes, the display should turn on and the iPod should power up correctly.

If you are at step 2 above, and the display is already blank, just leave the iPod alone and unplugged for at least one week. Then plug it into power as in step 3.

Unfortunately I tried those and it didn't work either 😟 The logo is VERY, VERY dim! It never fully comes on and shows the bright apple logo. I took it to the local Apple store and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it either 😟 They couldn't get their computers to recognize and couldn't get it to go into diskmode or reset or do anything. It's very frustrating because I'm basically just out all of the money I spent on it.

I'm wondering if it's the battery but have no clue how to replace it and it sounds like if it's that or the HDD or anything needing to be replaced it'll be more expensive to do that then it would be to buy a new one 😟 It's very frustrating! it's 6 years old and the Apple store said if it's older than 5 they can't replace parts, Super lame! They weren't sure what was wrong with it and suggested trading it in and getting 10% off a new one.

It should still be possible to have the battery replaced, if that's what is needed.

Have a look on this page; Apple - Support - Service Answer Center for more information. There's a section specifically about battery replacement and from there you should be able to find a local Apple service provider. In may be an Authorised Service Provider, rather than Apple, but they are - as it says -authorised.
