start up IMac system 9

I have an older iMac with a round base. On start up the drive is not connecting. Im getting the flashing icon. I remember to restart holding down the option key and when I do that I get the 2 icons the circle with an arrow and the straight arrow on the right. When I click either of the two I get a spinning clock and then it stops. Nothing happens after....

How do I get my drive to be recognized??

iMac, Mac OS 9.2.x

If your data is not backed up, you will probably have trouble finding the right data recovery application, but you can try the vendors who make it:

Note, the white dome iMac was only bootable in Mac OS 9 if it had 700 mHz, or a Superdrive with 800 Mhz. The Combo drive model (without DVD burner) 800, and 1 Ghz and higher models could only use Classic for Mac OS 9.

The PRAM battery may need replacing.
