Q: PowerMac G5 SSD

I have a HyperX Fury 240GB SSD, and I want to put it into an old PowerMac G5. I connected the cables correctly and insured all was in working order, but when I boot into the Leopard CD and into Disk Utility the drive isn't recognized. I've tried putting the SSD into both drive bays but it doesn't seem to work. Help?

In hindsight the SSD not working was most likely the PowerMac's fault. I got a free replacement of that SSD though, although I didn't need to.

Is it SATA 1.5Gb/s compatible?

(I see it isn't... SATA Rev. 3.0 (6Gb/s) with backwards compatibility to SATA Rev. 2.0)

Have you tried it in Slot 1 with an original SATA Drive in slot 0?

According to the handy program Mactracker, all PowerMac G5s are compatible with SATA 1.5 and 2.0, so it should work. I have not put in the original drives because I don't have them.

I had this issue with a G5 iMac. The only SSD I could find that worked came from OWC (macsales.com). It was one of their "Legacy" drives. Shoot them an email with your model info. and they'll let you know what they've got that works.

SATA 3 Gb/s has been known to work in later G5s if the OS can first see a true SATA 1.5 Gb/s drive in slot 0.

Some SATA 6 Gb/s devices work at 3 Gb//s or 1.5 Gb/s, most 3 Gb/s device work at 1.5 Gb/s also, but many do not.

Nevermind about this, I have determined that the G5 will read these drives just fine, but the SSD is faulty! Just my luck...
