To change the ID on your device you need to sign out of the old ID then sign back in with the revised ID.  In order to sign out of the old ID you'll have to temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password.

You might be able to but I can't guarantee the Genius bar will be current on this issue.  This sounds harder than it is...shouldn't take more than 5 min.

If you end up going to the Apple store, print this article out and take it with you: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud.  The process I posted is a more detailed version of Apple's description shown under "Change your ID temporarily" at the bottom.

What a OS8 upgrade nightmare. It keeps throwing my iphone and ipad out but I can still get to my account on my PC? What? I ma able to sign into my account with the correct password here but every time I try on the i products it says it can't verify or is unavailable. Of course all this started with the upgrade that I can't take back. Photos - in icloud that now I can't access! Very frustrating!  If I back out it says it will delete all from device - all that I can't get to! Help! i not happy!
