IOS 8 apps store badge issue on iphones after sync to Itunes

Did updates to my apps thru I-tunes on my macbook. Then sync both my iphone 5s and 4s (both run on IOS 8) to the I-tunes. All apps that needed update got synched and updated on both iphones.

But, the App Store red-badge icon still showed the notifications for apps needs to be updated.

Also on the update page of the apps, the already updated apps still remained on the 'Available Update' section (did not moved to 'Updated' section) although the "install" buttons have all changed into "Open".

Did a re-sync, turning on-off notification for the apps in 'setting', device shutdown, reboot, turning wifi on-off. Nothing worked

Anyone experiencing the same issues here ?? .. Any solution ?

Same here. When a new update to another app became available, the previous notifications disappeared. But now the new notification is stuck, after the app was updated via iTunes.

iPhone 5S, had the problem with iOS 8.0.0, the upgrade to 8.0.2 didn't solve it.

FInd the fix (accidently) ..

Put your device on airplane mode .. > While at it : Go to app store > update page > click each of the apps that have update issue > apps will reset into "update" again > go back to setting to turn "off" airplane mode > then back to apps store : re-update the apps ..

Thats it .. My problem fixed

That's not really a solution... What you do is block the app store from checking if an app is up-to-date, and when you turn off airplane mode again, start the update before the app store can check. If you wait a few seconds in the app store, it will return to displaying the "Open" button and disable the possibility to update, but the notification badge will still display an available update. If you are quick enough to update, what happens is it will re-download all apps under "available updates," although they were up-to-date already, and the badge will clear. But next time there are app updates which are updated via iTunes, the problem will reappear.

If you want to update apps directly to your iPhone, you should enable this in the settings: iTunes & App Store > under Automatic Downloads, switch on Apps. But this is not what I want, when I update from iTunes the app store on my iPhone should notice this. The fact it doesn't is a bug.

I have the identical problem since updating to 8.0.2, on both iPad Air and iPhone 5S. This used to happen occasionally in the past and the remedy that worked was to manually set the date in Settings 30 days ahead then reopen the iOS App Store. Apps previously downloaded and installed and showing 'open' then disappeared and did not reappear when setting date/time back to auto. This workaround no longer does the trick. Now, the badge remains showing app updates available, and when the app store app is opened, it first shows status as 'update' which quickly changes to 'open' and this status no longer goes away after install. As an experiment, I deleted two apps in this condition yesterday and reinstalled them from iTunes on my Mac and the condition was not repeated - the badges were cleared. Obviously, this is not the way things should work and I hope Apple is aware of this issue and will fix it.

@ de lemming : you probably right, putting the iphone in airplane mode and reset the updating apps might not be the perfect solution .. but in the meantime it solved the issue for me until Apple comes out with a fix ..

@asimpsson : first open the app store and then to the "update" page > then put the iphone into airplane mode

Yeah.. figured that. It still took me several tries/re-tries to get it to show "Update" instead of "Open" though, but once it did I re-updated and the badge did go away. Still a poor work-around though. But I'll just pile it on top of the list of bugs I've encountered since upgrading to 8.xx (I've literally lost count now of how many). Apps that won't launch at all despite uninstall/reinstall, at least half a dozen different bugs in iMessage, and an inability to browse more than 2-3 photos without having to shut down the app before it will allow me to swipe again.

Crazy bad OS release... verified by the fact that they've already released 2 updates.

Thx

I got the badge to clear without having to go into airplane mode: when you first launch the App Store app and hit 'Updates', the already-updated apps flash 'Update' before switching to 'Open' and, if you have a second finger ready, you can hit 'Update' on one of the apps. All other apps can then be updated again and the badge disappears. How permanent that will be remains to be seen.

I've experimented the past few days, only downloading updated apps over the air (OTA) and not using iTunes for this purpose. Downloading on each of my 3 devices via OTA does, indeed, clear the new update badge count on the App Store icon. The apps then remain in the update tab of the App Store app showing 'open.' My previous method for clearing apps stuck on this tab (some used to clear by themselves), is to go to Settings/General/Time & Date and turn off button to "Set Automatically". Then manually advance the date at least 30 days in the future. Exit settings and go back to the App Store Update tab and all the items there should disappear. Then go back to settings and set the Time and Date back to "Set Automatically."

I will continue to do updates via OTA on each device until the next iOS update. It's a nuisance, but the only way to have a proper idea of whether there are new updates waiting.
