Q: IOS 8 apps store badge issue on iphones after sync to Itunes

Did updates to my apps thru I-tunes on my macbook.  Then sync both my iphone 5s and 4s (both run on IOS 8) to the I-tunes.  All apps that needed update  got synched and updated on both iphones.

But, the App Store red-badge icon still showed the notifications for apps needs to be updated.

Also on the update page of the apps,  the already updated apps still remained on the 'Available Update' section (did not moved to 'Updated' section)  although the "install" buttons have all changed into "Open".

Did a re-sync, turning on-off  notification for the apps in 'setting',  device shutdown, reboot, turning wifi on-off.   Nothing worked

Anyone experiencing the same issues here ?? .. Any solution ?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8, same issue on iphone 4s on IOS 8

    Hi,

I have reported this as bug also, but appear to be having problems using the flight mode fix. Could you please clarify what steps need to be completed. I seem to be struggling to get it to install again.

    Thanks

    Paul

I got it to work without using flight mode so try this:

    1. Quit the App Store app fully (double-tap the home button, swipe the App Store app upwards to fully quit).

    2. Launch the App Store app and tap "Updates", having a finger poised to quickly tap "Update" before it changes to "Open". (You might need a couple of attempts at this).

    3. Once you tap "Update" on one app, any other apps should be able to be updated.

This appears to permanently fix the problem (so far).

Hi There, I had 40 updates and the badge now shows 17. I don't get the update option as I think the first 5 or so are not causing me problems. I think the airplane mode is next on my list to try, I just can't figure out what to do :-(

I found the quickly tapping "update" works but only as a workaround. Unlike Is there a vet in the house this has not been a permanent fix. BTW I have the same issue on three devices.

To try using the airplane mode :

Open app store > go to update page > click home button twice (don't close the app store) > go to setting : turn "on" airplane mode > go back to app store update page > click  the "open" button on the apps that have issues (this should revert back from "open" to "update") > go back to setting > turn "off" airplane mode > then back again to app store update page : click "update" on all the apps ..

Indeed it is a back and forth process, which like some of the posters have said here, not a permanent fix.  But it worked for me, and i only had 3 apps with issues at that time .. Now i only use OTA update on all of my devices and never have issues using OTA ... I never update thru I-tunes sync anymore.

Hoping for Apple to have a fix on the next IOS vers

Neither the "Airplane mode" method, nor the "date change" method worked for me.

I had the same problem. My Apps Badge was showing 25 updates. I updated them all via iTunes but the badge still showed 25 updates. After trying everything I could think of to resolve the problem (reboots, force quitting the app, etc)... I went into Settings > iTunes & App Store and in Automatic Downloads I noticed that 'Updates' (App Store) was not enabled... after enabling 'Updates' the problem was solved. Make sure you have both 'Apps' and 'Updates' enabled.

I may be wrong but I think this will allow your device to automatically update apps as they become available so that you do not need to sync with iTunes on your computer once you have updated the app. This however is not whay I want. I want to choose what abd when I update and not have it five automatically when it may I pact on my battery life etc

Neither this or the airplane mode (I'm too slow to tap update before it switches to open) worked for my iPhone 5S running 8.0.2

Since I routinely run App updates via iTunes, and I am very hopeful that Apple will have a fix soon, I just disabled the badge notification to calm my OCD.

Settings > Notifications > App Store > toggle off Badge App Icon

None of these fixes have worked for me...  app icon still shows a bogus 21 apps in red annoying circle.

LOL @ Exerceo.....  but then my OCD tells me I don't know what apps need updating.

After updating to iOS 8.1, problem still persists.

    iTunes 12.0.6.1, iPhone 5S, Windows 8.1

I agree this issue has not been fixed in iOS 8.1

    iTunes 12, iPhone 6, MacOS 10.9.5

I concur. iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iOS 8.1, iTunes 12 on Mavericks. No solution in sight. I continue to download only Over the Air (OTA) and not via iTunes to avoid this problem.

I'm having the same issue with my iPad. I can go through the airplane mode workaround, but that doesn't really fix the problem. It simply re-updates all of the apps one by one.  A bit silly to have to update twice to get an indicator to go away.
