Q: IOS 8 apps store badge issue on iphones after sync to Itunes

Did updates to my apps thru I-tunes on my macbook.  Then sync both my iphone 5s and 4s (both run on IOS 8) to the I-tunes.  All apps that needed update  got synched and updated on both iphones.

But, the App Store red-badge icon still showed the notifications for apps needs to be updated.

Also on the update page of the apps,  the already updated apps still remained on the 'Available Update' section (did not moved to 'Updated' section)  although the "install" buttons have all changed into "Open".

Did a re-sync, turning on-off  notification for the apps in 'setting',  device shutdown, reboot, turning wifi on-off.   Nothing worked

Anyone experiencing the same issues here ?? .. Any solution ?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8, same issue on iphone 4s on IOS 8

Right... updating over the air is fine... I update via itunes... and icon won't clear.

I tried the auto update on/off toggle.... updated via itunes... still have same issue.

BTW...  I toggled it to on then off again. This caused my phone to spontaneously restart by itself.

Huh?  Why would your phone have restarted?

And when you toggle on auto updates... it starts them updating over the air (ota) immediately.

So I wonder if your phone updated them OTA and then you updated them on itunes (i.e. two independent downloads)... so when you sync... what really cleared your phone icon was your phone downloading them OTA.

I toggled the automatic downloads on, then immediately off. I realize that the spontaneous reboot was not normal.  After it happened a second time, I did the hard reset. My testing of the update flag issue was done the next day when I had something new put a flag on the App Store on the iPhone. I then downloaded it via iTunes then synched and the badge count disappeared.

Someone else in this string mentioned that Apple tech support told him to do a hard reset.  Maybe that is sufficient?  Did you also try that?

i had same issue. solved it by going to Settings- Itunes and App Store. under Automatic Downloads I turned the Apps and Updates OFF.  When I checked the App Icon the annoying red no's were gone.

Then I turned the Apps and Updates in Automatic Downloads back on (green).. and the red no's on App Icon still gone. Sucess for now.

Thanks for the conversation on this post and the workarounds, very helpful.

What's interesting is that only one of my 5 iDevices (all on iOS 8.1.1) are experiencing the issue, my iPad mini - the rest work as they should.

Wish it worked for me ...still shows apps need to be updated after they are updated and and synced with iTunes

I wish Apple would fix this, I even tried a clean reinstall of iOS 8. Didn't work

    Hi,

updated today to iOS 8.1.3 on my iPhone 5 and iPad Air. The problem is still unsolved

I suppose the problem comes from iTunes and not form iOS

Yes, this bug is still alive using iOS 8.1.3 and iTunes 12.1.

I guess we'll wait for another update.

Okay, I'm having a similar issue and wanted to throw out what is going on for me.  I have an IPhone5 and have updated to iOS 8.1.3

I quickly discovered that it would not let me update any apps through my phone or "over the air" I guess its called.

Finally I went and updated through ITunes and my apps are now updated but I now have the badge issue.

All updated apps are under "Available updates" and show open on the right on my phone.

Signing into the app store on my phone changes nothing.

When I turn on the automatic updates under settings the badge disappears and when I turn it back off it reappears.

I hope this helps and have my fingers crossed that someone either comes up with a good solution or Apple gets off its butt and provides a proper update.

Has this been fixed in 8.2?

I updated to iOS 8.2. I then tried using iTunes to sync some app updates to my iPhone 5s yesterday and to my iPad Air today and the app badge did not show any update count on either device. The update tabs in App Store showed the iTunes fed updates as downloaded and ready to open. For the past 9 months I had been handling updates over the air (OTA) only due due to the App Store badge issues. It now appears to have been resolved, even though the release notes do not mention this particular fix. To be noted, the App Store icon had not yet shown any updates due (no badge count) at the time I did this. I saw the updates in iTunes before they showed as available on the devices.  I will continue to use update sync with iTunes and report any issues.

Are you syncing over over Wifi or USB? I'm syncing my iPad Air over Wifi and I'm still getting the badge with "1" even though they've been updated via iTunes. Also, in iTunes, I go to my iPad Air Apps setting (below Summary) and click "Update" on each app, and then click apply. Prior to iOS 8, when there's a new update, I would only click "Sync" and all new updated apps would transfer from iTunes to my iPad Air. This is frustrating.
