But would´t it have been nice if they had said sorry. Nice to admit you screwed up, say sorry and get on with putting it right.

May be they’re too busy unable to implement an alpha/beta testing before launched that 8.0.1.
May be they simply forgot to say SORRY

They did make it right, didn't they? They admitted there was a problem, posted a temporary solution, pulled the update within an hour and the fix was out in less than 24 hours. As there was a workaround (and not like the iOS 6 maps issue, which was not reversible, and which Cook subsequently apologized) I really doubt you will see an apology this time around, but who knows.
