IOS8 and proxy.pac files

Hi, for quite sometime we have been using proxy.pac files to provide connectivity to the internet through a proxy server while on the Corporate Wifi.

To that end we use Airwatch to manage all out devices and throughout IOS6 and IOS7 the Wifi Profile with the configured proxy.pac file has worked file.

For information the url to the .pac file is an internal LAN server and takes the form http://servername.domain.local/proxy.pac (obviously not that hostname or domainname), so we have always used the FQDN .domain.local.

However now any devices on IOS8 are unable to use the proxy server, further testing indicates that IOS8 with the same WiFi profile that works on IOS7 and IOS6 does not like the FQDN, this has been tested even with Safari, as it is unable to connect to the FQDN URL, however if we remove the FQDN (domain.local) and just use the hostname )http://servername/proxy.pac), then everything works again.

Now while this may fix the issue, I'm concerned the inability to use internal FQDN will result in other issues, has anyone else seen this issue and know of a fix ?

Thanks

Darren
