Sep 25, 2014 6:07 AM in response to arthurby kevmcs,★HelpfulHi Arthur
Many thanks for that. I think I may have solved it - I stopped my mac opening any programs when I booted up, specifically links to Google Drive and dropbox, and now the finder appears to be working normally. Might be coincidental but as long as it works, I;m not too fussed what fixed it.
If it recurs, I'll run the Etresoft app you suggest and come back.
best, Kevin

Sep 25, 2014 2:14 PM in response to kevmcsby cadoerfler,Hi. I am having a similar problem. Since updating to 10.9.5 finder does not work. it starts, displays whatever directory it happens to be in, and will display the first directory you click. then it is done. You can't close it, can't display a different directory, and the display window picks up whatever is on top of it (if you happen to open a window over it) and never refreshes. I do use google drive and a 3rd party add on called insync but i've been using them for a long time and only on this update did finder become an issue. Below is the system data fromt eh program mentioned above. thanks.

Oct 9, 2014 6:33 AM in response to cadoerflerby DuoDesign,I had this issue too. Found disconnecting from the LAN (pulling lead, switching off WIFI) fixed this.
The other way of fixing it was to connect to our network drive.
I think in my case at least the finder was trying to do some network resolution in the background, but failing, hence the beachball etc...

Oct 9, 2014 7:07 AM in response to kevmcsby cadoerfler,After a couple weeks, the problem spontaneously resolved, so don't know if a bug patch found its way to me or what, but it isn't a problem anymore.

Oct 16, 2014 12:23 PM in response to cadoerflerby rosa1041,I am having the exact same problem. The only way to get it working is to reboot or restart. I'm having to do it about 10 times per day. It's driving me nuts. Does anybody have a solution yet? It only started after I installed mavericks 10.95

Oct 19, 2014 7:10 AM in response to RED619by RED619,The only way to get to my files outside of programs now is to open Force Quit dialog box and relaunch finder every time. WTH Apple?
-
Oct 19, 2014 12:24 PM in response to RED619by rosa1041,Yes I've fixed it. Having looked around the web for suggestions, I turned off dropbox and Google Drive so they didn't launch when I booted up. I've had no problems since. Before I did that, I was having to reboot about 10 times a day to get Finder working again. So it looks like it's one of those two that causes it to happen.
Good luck

Nov 6, 2014 2:33 AM in response to rosa1041by AnBodo,I have had a similar problem with my new MBP with 10.9.5. Finder crashes several times a day (about once an hour) and the only thing that works is to do a forced shut down (5 secs pressing the power button) before rebooting. I turned off dropbox at startup, but the problem persists. It might be related to my use of a network disk at my workplace, but I am not sure. Anyway, any OS should deal with networked disks, be it Drive, Dropbox or anything else. FRUSTATION!!!!

Nov 6, 2014 11:38 AM in response to rosa1041by rosa1041,I took my MacBook Air into the Apple Genius Bar. They insisted it was a hardware problem and did some fixes.
Initially when I brought it home the problem continued, but suddenly it went away and I'm now having no problems. I assumed that they identified the bug in Mavericks and fixed it, but I'm not sure.

Nov 7, 2014 10:47 AM in response to AnBodoby Eric Root,Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
