Q: my iMAC doesn't run!!!

hi everybody!

i've got a big big problem.

i've got an old iMac and a new one (since Feb 2014)

i need to acces all files in the old one (pictures, work, music...) and after a some months without running it... it doesn't work!!!

i can introduce my my password, and this morning i could see dock and even folders... but couldn't run any app... and it doesn't reconigze, neither, an external drive, so, i can't copy files, neither acces to any pages or keynotes or numbers file...

mouse remains "thinking" ("tourning") and nothing happens

it's terrifying!!!

can't acces to check serial number, or OS version, or system preferences...

i'm really afraid!!!

Hey there,

I would suggest you have two options.

1. You can boot to Recovery Partition, install OS X on an external drive, boot to that drive instead of Macintosh HD using start up manager and from there you should be able to manually copy the files from Macintosh HD.

2. Depending on the age of your 'old' mac, you may be able to put it into target disk mode with your new mac and do the same process. I have linked the instructions for using Target Disk Mode here.

If you are not comfortable with following these steps alone I would suggest contacting apple support for assistance.
