Oct 22, 2014 9:02 PM in response to jmca810by K-in-Berlin,Looks like 8.1 took care of my cellular troubles as well, what a relief. I agree with the other posters, if Apple had just been upfront about the problem from the beginning, folks would have been more understanding. As is, Apple has lost a lot of good will from a loyal customer base.

Oct 23, 2014 6:04 AM in response to K-in-Berlinby jk10003,Exactly right on both counts. After 36 hours of 8.1, my cellular data seems to be back with consistency. My thanks to all the folks here who have stayed in touch.
Unfortunately, Apple failed in assistance and communication. I remain skeptical whenever their suggested solution is "backup, reset, restore".

Oct 25, 2014 11:48 AM in response to hawthornejmby mmfreitas,8.1 just broke my cellular service. It may have fixed the problems introduced with 8.0 but I was still on 7.0 and I'm now suffering from this same problem. I tried every suggestion on this thread, with no success. I'm hating Apple more and more wit every passing day. How do you not test the one function that makes your devices usable?

Oct 29, 2014 7:54 AM in response to captscottsoby Brett Mayo,I'll reply to you since I can't click the last page of the thread.
I manage mobile devices at my company and we have multiple people that are still having service issues on iPad 2's even after updating to 8.1. I've tried everything in this thread and the issue has always returned.
As another poster suggested, I submitted feedback to www.apple.com/feedback and let them know that we were still having issues after the 8.1 update.

Nov 13, 2014 5:13 AM in response to Brett Mayoby cobaye-conso,Problem is the same in Sri Lanka with Dialog and Mobitel.
I have an iPad mini and everything was fine for me until I updated it to iOS 8.1 (I think directly from 8.0.1, not sure I got 8.0.2)
Since iOS 8.1 my iPad has the same issues described on this thread :
- No service 98% of the time unless I do a switch-off, shut off localize my device... where the problem is fixed for about 5 minutes.
- My iPad has trouble reaching the Wifi networks (though available for my other apple devices)
- When on wifi, Internet is very slow
- + additional weird comportments : apps self starting of shuting down, self launching of "exposé" (idem double tap on home button), keyboard not reactive and sometimes displaying characters that I did not hit
So definitely 8.1 is not the solution, but the beginning of the headache for some other users and I find it very annoying.
Since 2 years, I'm constantly facing issues with my iDevices while I had always been pro-Apple because it was reliable!!!
My iPhone 5S is back to customer service because battery was swollen and broke the screen, MBA battery/alimentation issues (currently at customer service, while a certified Apple Service center already made me change the battery + the charger on my own expenses), iPhone 5 over-heating battery and trouble with iOS 8.1 as well (same as addtional weird comportments listed above), iMac 27, HDD and alimentation replaced...

Nov 24, 2014 1:56 PM in response to cobaye-consoby jlchancery,I just wanted to add that I have tried EVERYTHING here mentioned to get my newly updated iPad 2 to ios 8.1.1 and nothing worked to restore the cellular data connection EXCEPT resetting the ipad. So, if anyone else is having issues, you might want to try resetting to factory settings and then you should be good to go. I also feel your pain since I have dealt with this issue for hours today. GOOD LUCK!
I changed to language.
I reset the network settings.
I rebooted the ipad.
I turned off Facetime data.
I turned off Location Services.
Just a few of the many things mentioned on this feed to try.
SO, bottom line, reset the ipad to factory settings and you should have your ipad 2 working once again and connecting to cellular data.

Dec 1, 2014 2:17 PM in response to jlchanceryby teachermuriel,AFter the update to ios 8.1.1 my ipad air 2 no longer connects to the cellular data network. I get a message that says "Could not connect to cellular data network. You are not subscribed to a cellular data service." Obviously, I do have a working subscription. I checked the SIM card and it's in perfect condition. I also see the name of my carrier in the top left hand corner and I have excellent signal strength.
I have tried EVERY suggestion I came across, including resetting my ipad to factory settings, after taking a backup. I have done so not once, not twice but three times! I managed to use my data connection on one or two occasions, just after resetting, but then everything went wrong again.
So I'm basically paying my cellular subscription for nothing, as I can't use it. I feel cheated by Apple.
HAs anyone considered taking legal action against them?

Dec 1, 2014 3:06 PM in response to teachermurielby Peter from KSU,If legal is necessary count me in. I have tried everything. Went to the Version store and this is their reply:
"Unfortunately the only resolution I have found for getting older model iPads to work after having iOS 8 installed is to downgrade to iOS 7, unfortunately Apple stopped signing iOS 7 last Saturday at 9am.
At this time Verizon has no method for resolving this issue, I would recommend talking to Apple and see if perhaps they have any other solutions.
If you require new equipment we do have iPad Air and Mini 2's on sale while supplies last.

This is documented in my Verizon account when I went in to Verizon when my iPad 2 lost 3 g after Apple updated it to IOS 8.1.1.

Mar 25, 2015 7:09 AM in response to hawthornejmby aminasadi,We had this problem and looked into APN setting of the carrier. Noticed rather than internet.tele2.se it has changed to 4g.tele.se . So manually setting it back to "internet" fixed the problem
