Oct 5, 2014 11:02 AM in response to hawthornejmby Christian Jilge,Hi,
have had the same issue on my iPad 2 GSM, German Vodafone network until this morning; then I took the time to
1) shut down ipad
2) remove SIM card
3) start iPad (no SIM displayed in upper left corner of course)
4) shut down ipad
5) insert SIM card
6) start ipad
could not believe what happened, because none of the fixes suggested in this thread did work. But now I'm on 3G without any problem since more than 8 hours with many stand-by cycles. Anyone to confirm this?

Oct 5, 2014 1:01 PM in response to Christian Jilgeby janvdc,I tried all the above, in vain.
eexcept the suggestion about icloud. I can't figure out how to switch that off.
Another forum explains in detail how to renstal IOS 8.02 throgh iTunes with USB. It took me two hours to do all that. 3G was restored, I thought it was fixed. Next time I switched the ipad back on, "No Service" was back in the top left corner.
APple cannot afford to abandon the Ipad2 uiers so I'm sure this will be fixed in a next IOS update. In the meantime, this *****.
IT would be nice if Apple at least had the decency to make an official statement on this. I hope they are better at programming than at customer service.

Oct 5, 2014 1:32 PM in response to Dazedinlaby Markus Denzlinger,My connection remains ok for one or two days. No idea when it gets lost. Last time I'd tried your recommendation and wanted to switch off "find my iPhone" but it was already off in the settings.
When opening this dialog the 3G connection came back without any further steps and "find my iPhone" was on although I did not change anything. Now I'm waiting for the next drop.

Oct 5, 2014 2:18 PM in response to Markus Denzlingerby Markus Denzlinger,Some minutes ago my 3G connection dropped. So I opened the settings -> iCloud and without doing anything else, the connection returned. I could see for some seconds that "find my iPad" was off and after the connection cam back it was on.

Oct 5, 2014 2:53 PM in response to hawthornejmby Markusbass,Problem 'd be coused by 3G and Gps conflict.
This can be a solution till Apple fix problem for 3G service on "old" ipad. Try to turn off/on localization service near application that have grey arrow, 3G service should restart without reboot…

Oct 6, 2014 12:30 AM in response to hawthornejmby janvdc,This works !
thank you Markusbass.
for dummies like me:
1. click Settings icon
2 select Privacy in the left column
3 select Location Settings at the top of right pane. This shows you a list of apps that can use location settings.
4 One of these apps is marked by a small grey arrow aat the right. See legend at the bottom of that page. Remove location settings for this app.
5 at that moment, you should already see that the No Service mention in the top left corner changes into Searching and then you get back online.
BIg hug for Markusbass. I tried everything else, Let's hope I stay online now. But even if I don't, there's an easy fix here.

Oct 6, 2014 9:49 AM in response to hawthornejmby K-in-Berlin,I've tried everything suggested in this thread and none of them work. It is always the same, looks OK for a while, then without warning I pick up the iPad, wake it up and there is the No Service indication and the only way to bring it back is a restart. I hope Apple will get this solved. Before I updated I had excellent service from the iPad 2. Now it's crap. However if you read further on the web, the iOS 8 update is obviously full of bugs and problems. Bummer.

Oct 6, 2014 4:55 PM in response to Christian Jilgeby Dreynt,I did reboot my machine without the SIM card and reinserted it after a few days ago when my 3G problems first started but lost the connection overnight and a number of times since then....not a solution. Typically what happens is there will be another version of iOS released and the problems will magically disappear. Apple says it doesn't monitor these forums but I think that highly unlikely. I have experienced a few issues like this before with iOS 5 and 6, and they tend to get resolved in new releases.
