EEver since loading new ios8 software my wife and my ipad2 keeps freezing up on facetime.Keeps saying poor internet connection and camera freezes.I tried everything and my internet provider sent new modem with router built in.Same results.Any ideas or is this an apple problem?

Me and my mother both have the same problem, both have an iPad 2 with iOS8.0.1 installed. It was fine with iOS 7 but the camera on FaceTime now keeps freezing everytime we switch it to the 'back camera'.
I've rang up Apple Support and they've tried everything including the good old "restore as new" but the problem still persists. They have now recommended me to take it to an Apple Store to get a diagnostic.

CCc can you tell me the results when you take it to Apple store.I live 50 minutes from the nearest store.They told me the same thing or wait for there engineer to investigate.They said last Friday they would call today and no call yet.I think they should fix themselves or give us 2 new ones.Thanks ken!!!

Yeah I will do, I live far as well (I'm about 40mins away from the nearest store) but I'm going home for the weekend from uni next week so I'm going to book an appointment for then and pop in on the way home.
Just hope they can find a fix as it's getting tedious when I FaceTime my mother.
I have exact the same issue when switching from the front tot the back camera!
It only happens when using the back camera. The video image freezes, then goes black indicating that the connection is poor.
As soon as I switch back to the front camera, the video resumes.
There is most definitely a problem in IOS 8 FaceTime on iPAD 2 AND the iPAD2 has become very sluggish since he upgrade to IOS8.
I Totally agree.Supposeably Apple engineers are looking into the problem.It's been over 2 weeks.They are going to call me y Friday,so they say,I'll keep you posted!!!
I went to the Apple Store today and the Genius Bar people have confirmed that the problem exist. They even tried to restore as new too but the problem still arise. As they have confirmed that this is a software issue, they are going to pass these details to the software engineering department.
So for now, it looks like we are going to have a broken rear facetime camera 😟
Thanks for the update.One of there tecs called yesterday,and have ruled out a hardware problem.After 3 weeks and both iPads having same problem

Thanks for the info.Tec called yesterday and said it wasn't a hardware problem,which I knew since both iPads froze the same exact day from updating software.They will update me Monday.Thanks Ken

I have the same problem but not only with facetime but with skype and other voip apps. It is something with network buffer.
Is it fixed?If yes what had to be done?Thanks ken

I've had this problem since iOS 8.0 on my iPad2 also. iOS 8.1.1 was supposed to fix iPad2 issues but this Facetime glitch is still exactly the same.
It's definitely software from apple update.Mine was under warranty and received new ipad2 with old version 7.0.It works perfect,but my wife's ipad 2 not uunder warranty was upgraded like yours to 8.0 and 8.1 still doesn't work.Also got iPad Air and it also works awesome.I hope your's is still under warranty.Good luck!!!
tried 8.1.1 same thing.Nothing has been fixed!!
I am not 100% sure, but I think I found a workaroud to fix this problem.I have a Ipad 2 running on IOS 8.1.1 and I was facing the freeze when switching to rear camera on facetime. I did the following and it seems that Facetime is working fine now: I opened the camera and switches several time between rear and front camera. After that Facetime was OK even after a power off and power on.
