iPhone 6 won't play with Kenwood stereo USB port. Help !!

I have a Kenwood KDC-BT743U Stereo in my car, which has a front panel USB port. I've been able to connect my iPhone 4S and play music from my iTunes catalog as well as stream music from Pandora, Soundcloud, Tune In Radio, Mixcloud et al, without any problems until yesterday.....

Now that I've upgraded my phone to a iPhone 6 and when I connect it to the stereo via the USB port, it doesnt play at all. After about 2 minutes of trying to connect , I recieve a 'USB Error" . As I stated, I've had no problems with my iPhone 4S, which I've used with this same stereo deck for the last two years without any problem what so ever.

I'm looking for some guidance on next steps to take in order to fix the problem? Did Apple change the spec in some sort of way? Do I need to go to Kenwood for a firmware update (their website provides no information about iPhone 6 compatability with any of their stereo's which is very odd to me) ?

Please help, my life in the car during long commutes is just not the same......

I have this exact same issue. My iPhone 5S works fine with my Kenwood stereo in my car. The iPhone 6 is totally unrecognized.

I have a similar problem. My iPhone 5 worked with my Kenwood stereo through Bluetooth for the phone. I paired the iPhone 6 (using iOs 8) but I can't make any phone calls. I either get a dialing error or it just says 'calling....." and nothing happens.

I tried plugging the phone into the USB port. I was able to get Pandora to play through the stereo but the phone doesn't work this way either.

I'm really hating not being able to use the phone system in the Kenwood stereo.

I have a Kenwood also was ready to take my six back and get my 5s back. Heard to reset phone in settings and that sounded like it kept having the issue after removing the phone and connecting it again. So i took the face plate off my Stereo and found a reset button on the front. I put it back on pressed and held it and presto change oh it works, seems to work better now than my 5s. That worked for me hope this helps.

I Am having this problem too! Other iPhones okay fine on my Kenwood car stereo! Have tried to play my iPhone 6 and it says no device! I reset the radio as other posts suggested. It now says "reading." And blinks for a minute. Then says "iPod error." some progeess but still won't Play! I reset it 3 times. Very frustrating. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Hoping an update will fix this! Don't exactly wanna buy new car stereo!

You have to use the original (Apple brand) white usb cord. I know it sounds too simple but it's true. Using off-brand cords means no tunes. For example, I tried using a cord I bought from Five Below. Plugged it into the usb, then the lightening pin into my phone, the display indicated it was searching for my device then ended with an error message.

It was out of sheer, morbid curiosity I wondered what would happen if I used the cord Apple provided. Plugged it in and Cha-Ching! I had tunes.

Hope this helps. (-:

Possible Solution:

1. Go to Settings > General

2. Go to Restrictions

3. Enter Passcode (possibly x2)

4. Enable Restrictions

5 Disallow CarPlay

6. Reset Network Settings (Not 100% sure if this step is needed)

7. Have at least 1 song in Apple Music App

8. Have Iphone at Home Screen

9. Connect Apple Original Cable

10. That 1 Song should start playing

11. Open Prefered Streaming App and hit Play

Carplay negatively affects USB connection with Non-Carplay USB Audio Receivers.

I have the Iphone 6 with 8.3 iOS connected to Pioneer avh-41000dvd car stereo and the above solution fixed USB audio issues, including Error code 22-65.

If you are having issues upon reconnect, disconnect and bring Iphone to home screen and reconnect.

None of the suggested solutions in this thread work.

I have factory reset everything

i updated all firmware

I'm using the apple cable that was shipped with the phone.

in my case the kenwood is a dnx6190hd.

The phone will pair with bluetooth a2dp but in the bluetooth settings the pandora spp and aha will not enable.

the radio works fine with any android.

when plugged into the USB port the pandora app will start but the sound comes out of the phone, not the stereo. this is the same for iPod and aha. only bluetooth streamed sound will play via the stereo.

Pandora will not function at all via bluetooth
