Apple responds to bendgate (bending iPhone 6 Plus)

Apple has officially responded to "bend-gate". They claim it's a rare issue with normal use, and has only been reported by 9 people. I hope that's true, but part of me is somewhat skeptical. They don't really define "normal use" but one would hope that placing the phone in your pocket, regardless of size, would qualify.

Nothing absurd at all, researching a device before you buy makes complete sense to me. I only discovered the possible issue when looking for a comparative review. Apples statement gives me some comfort especially that part where they say to contact them if you have an issue with this problem with this device. That gives me much more comfort than posts on this forum debating normal use, possible Samsung conspiracy or simple denial. Apple isn't a religion it is a company the iPhone isn't an absolute it is a phone, a very good phone but ultimately a phone.

Here are some additional articles on Apple addressing the bending issue for those who like reading from multiple sources. Most of them echo each other. The Verge mentioned Apple initially responded to CNBC about the issue, but I was unsuccessful in locating any such article on CNBC's website. The Verge article shows a screen capture of the tweet from CNBC mentioning Apple's response. Shouldn't CNBC at least publicize this information on their website as well.

Explain exactly how I bash? I certainly don't work for Samsung. I have been with Apple since PowerPC days. I like my tech and I like my tech companies to be responsive to user needs and I am even happy to be a part of the testing process to a certain extent. I am by nature an early adopter. Not entirely sure why you thinking that equates to bashing. I don't see conspiracy and don't bury my head in the sand. If you have a problem with any of that then I would suggest that the issue isn't with me. Don't waste the forum with personal attack, I came here to verify information not stir up a hornets nest. Given the polarised opinion I found I sort to give a realistic view. So far I have been inform that my use of a phone is outside the bounds of reasonable regardless to the fact that Apple and other manufacturers have sort to provide more robust devices, then things have fallen to a Samsung conspiracy level, and now you are accusing me of working for Samsung... Really??? Don't waste time or kB on this. You will find in life that not everyone will agree with you and sometimes discussion will take a right hand turn down a dead end. Best not to perpetuate that. Better to remain rational. So for the record I don't work for Samsung and I don't think you work for apple, as someone else said "they use the world's best engineers" that look for potential issues rather than deny any possible existence of error.

There have been "Official" product recalls from Apple for a long time, like many companies. Here is another example - Loss of cellular service or ability to use Touch ID after updating to iOS 8.0.1 on iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

The "premature" release of a product/device to meet Wall Street expectations is taking the Engineering out one of the best Engineering companies around today and making it a Marketing juggernaut. Lessons from Nokia, Blackberry, Motorola abound on demise of organizations who were innovative but collapsed under "marketing" pressure.

The "unibody" construction of Macs is another area where "flexibility" vs "bendability" is a matter of perception. Most of these will "deform" with pressure, the "extent" of "deformity" being proportional to force. Given enough force things will bend.

There is always AppleCare+ for people who are accident-prone and this who are likely to forget that an iPhone6 with ApplePay should not be treated like a leather-wallet in the back-pocket of you denims. Do such people put there TVs face down on the floor? They probably do to find the mechanical strengths of the Gorilla glass.

There is a story about a wooden ladder being left in cow-dung in a barn, and the owner fell because the wood had been rotting for months. He sued the ladder company and won the law suit, so the ladder company put up a warning label on the ladder about not storing the ladder in a barn where cow-dung was aplenty. There should soon be a video of a iPhone6+ in a Microwave oven from some person who says it does not work when inside one. 👿

two small kids bend iPhone 6 PLUS, with limited force...

And it certainly doesn't look like they're doing it so easily. But still, even a kid who tries hard enough, can likely exert 70lbs of force. And just what do you think this proves? I think it proves some kids belong in juvenile detention and should be punished.
