Howdy rclosure,

It sounds like you are having trouble installing the iOS 8 update. I would start by restarting your iPhone:

Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of your device until the red slider appears. Then drag the slider to turn your device completely off.

After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

If you are still unable to update the phone, you can also update it with iTunes on your computer:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch iOS software

You will need to connect to a computer with iTunes to apply the update. When you connect, be sure you back up prior to selecting restore and update.

If you have an iPhone with only 8GB, you'll want to stay very far away from iOS 8. It will consume more than half your memory just for the OS, so you'll have to delete most of your pictures, music and apps.

That's only if you update over-the-air ... if you update via iTunes that's not the case at all.

I would recommend not installing iOS8 on an iPhone 4s. It will likely be very slow and you won't get many of the features of the OS anyway.

I would also recommend against updating. It will be significantly slower and consume more precious space on your 8 gig phone.
