MS Exchange 365 & Mavericks

Hi

I'm really desperate now. I've been trying to add an office 365 exchange account under the "internet accounts" section in system preferences (Mavericks 9.5)

When I add the account I get the "there was an error in the internet accounts preference pane" error. I have found many posts about this firstly saying that the exact name needs to match that of the account when you add it or this error will occur (I guess this is name is for example John Snow with caps and a space). I've also tried john.snow, john.snow@company.com all of which fail. I managed the other day to get this to work but I needed to remove the account and add it again and I forgot what I wrote as the name (but sure it is one of the things I have tried). To get around this (as suggested) I have tried adding the account when I am offline and adjusting the name details when I reconnect but even though the account adds, when I open mail it constantly asks for my password which when I add gives me the error message "mail can't connect to the account 'exchange' "

I'm getting really ****ed off now because this SHOULD work (and has been). I have the latest mavericks update, a working 365 account, a decent connection and brand new machine. The exact same details work fine on my iPhone, I know this used active sync instead but it proves that the credentials are correct.

Apple wants people to use Mail but the truth is it's a piece to ***t and they are too lazy as usual to bother making it work.

Please could someone help me because I am going to have to use a plastic creaky discussing PC laptop if I can't get this to work and I have a brand new MBP that I bought especially for this new job!

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Please don't be rude to me it is not necessary.

I did not forget my credentials. I know my name and email address and password. In the incidence of a 365 exchange account the "name" field is unusually sensitive. This is not the case with any other account type and reflects the difficulty in setting up this type of account -either apple or MS have not made it easy and that is for a reason. You only have to look at the hundreds of people facing difficulty with a product that is designed around accessibility.

LIKE I SAID, I am sure that I have tried the name I used the time it worked and there is another issue at play. There are only a few things it could be based on my account profile and (like I did the first time) I have tried every possible combination.

I came on here for help not sarcasm and a lecture

If you are sure that you used the correct name what is there to do? There is no guarantee that it will be the same as the phone.

Contact the Exchange admin and ask for your login credentials (you're using Exchange EWS to connect)

Yes I am sure I have used the correct name. What is there to do?! Good question! That is exactly why I posted on here!

I have contacted my IT department and they do not understand the problem either after trying many times and failing to get it working.

As I stated previously, I realise that iOS uses active sync to connect to servers whilst the Mail app uses EWS, but the fact that my phone has connected and pulls data from the account proves that I am using the correct login email address and password (iOS does not require a "name" to add an exchange account).

I was hoping that someone may have also been in my situation and discovered a fix.

Thanks

So lets say my name is James Smith (I will not use my real name for security reasons)

I have tried:

James Smith

james.smith

jamessmith

smith.james

smithjames

smith james

js

jsmith

james.smith@company.com (this is my email)

company

company.com

None of these work and I definitely used one of these when I first enabled the account.

Server names come after this first page which I cannont advance to. On the first page the only fields are:

Name

Email Address

Password

If I "cheat" and try and add the account whilst disconnected, I get to the next page which has:

Description (optional)

User Name: james.smith

Email Address: james.smith@company.com

Server Address: outlook.office365.com (this is the correct server address for office 365 accounts)

Apple preference pane adds the account automatically and there is no option for manual input. There is no option to add domain.

Thanks

Put the wrong password in and press continue, it will fail to setup and you will be able to enter the information manually.

If it is a standard Exchange setup your username is everything before the @ sign in your email address. I have no idea how your Exchange admin set you up so try the full email as well.

Who set this up, did you? outlook.office365.com is the IMAP server name (on a Mac or a PC). Normally your connection point should end in /owa
