Just updated to iOS 8.0.2 on both my iPhone 5 and iPad Air and the App Store badge app count still shows the number of apps that had updates even though they were updated when syncing with my Mac.
When you launch the App Store it quickly shows "Update" for a number of apps before then showing "Open"
Anyone else got the same issue or know how to fix it?
Same issue. Tried resyncing iPhone 5s with iTunes, soft reset, the obvious things, but nothing worked. I checked to make sure I actually had the updated versions installed, and I do, so while iOS 8 seems to accept them, it clearly doesn't 'count' (literally) updates synced from iTunes. I'm still just on 8, waiting a day or so before installing 8.0.2, and was hoping that would fix it - but I guess not. Hoping this is noticed by Apple and will be fixed in the next update.

Just looked at my phone after a long evening at work, and the App Store badge and list of apps to update has completely fixed itself. Two apps to update listed, badge shows '2.' Maybe it just takes a few/several hours to, well, update properly? I'd be curious to know if anyone else's just fixes itself.
I thought you had worked it out from your earlier reply. It's only wrong after syncing with iTunes. Any apps that update from the sync are in limbo from a badge app count perspective. If after a while another app is ready to update the count fixes itself to the correct number. If you only update from the device itself the number is never wrong. It only goes wrong after an iTunes sync where an app is updated through that avenue.
Had the same problem with upgrading to 8.0.2 and then having app updates occur while syncing with iTunes - although just for the iPhone not iPad - not sure what I did differently if anything. The badge number on the phone was wrong until I got an over-the-air update notification which reset the badge number. I uploaded the app over-the-air and now there is no badge number (I would assume until the next update). Will try a sync again with iTunes to see if it was something new with iTunes - or just an odd combination of updating to 8.0.2 in conjunction with app updates.
Try downloading iBrowse. Connect your iPhone, browse to "Downloads" folder, then delete "downloads.28.sqlitedb".
Reeboot and it should work. If you have a few apps to update, update them; the badge count will update itself.

Ditto for me. Deleted 'downloads.28.sqlitedb' as suggested by pbjack, but no luck...
Have these same issue on my fully updated iPhone 5S. I'm able to update apps through iTunes on my computer but app badge count does not change on the phone even though they sync successfully.

Still a problem in 8.1 but as noted earlier with the next update available, update via wifi or wireless and it's then corrected. C'mon Apple this shouldn't be difficult to FIX!!!

updating OTA (which I hate) works fine.
updating apps on itunes then syncing phones (me preferred method), updates the apps, but puts an 'open' button next to it and leaves the bogus app number icon.
Was happening on my iphone 5 runing ios7 and now on iphone 6 running ios8.
So it is not a device or ios issue.... ? itunes issue.
Tigervision -> interesting that the problem is occurring on an iOS 7 device.
I actually believe that this is likely a server side issue, with the backend to the App Store. This means that Apple can likely fix it at any time, even without issuing an iOS update. Of course predicting when or if they will correct the problem is another matter.

If only I'd thought of that. Seriously though iOS 8.1.1 exhibits the exact same behaviour, I think this is much more likely a backend server issue than a software side issue. It really only applies to those of us who for various reasons (in my case there are multiple iOS devices at my location) prefer to download and install updates via iTunes.
