Q: Why does iOS 8.0.2 not resolve the issue of WiFi connectivity with iOS 8 and the new iPhone 6?

My iPhone 6 is still randomly disconnecting from my home WiFi, even after the latest OS update.  My spouse also has an iPhone 6 and has experienced no issues with WiFi connectivity.  When I spoke with Apple earlier in the week, I was told that they were aware of this issue with iOS 8 and would be working on a solution that should be released in 24 hours.  I have a $700+ phone that doesn't stay connected to WiFi.  Ridiculous.  Apple really needs to get it together.  This is the worst OS release yet.

    i tried everything suggested by people (Probably Apple Agents) It never fixed my problem of WIFI. Apple please fix Slow wifi problem before people move to Sam***g or HT*.

    Apple if you can not fix wifi in IOS 8.0.2 or IOS 8.1 then please release IOS 7 again. I never had a problem with it before. Forlkd. beleave me I compared with so many other devices with my iphone 5S with the same network at the same time. and all of them worked perfectly with live youtube streaming except Iphone 5S.

    apple please fix this issue

    other devices (not ios 8) have good wifi and my phone...

    I got rid of my Linksys EA4500 and got the ASUS RT-AC68U - AC1900. I was due an upgrade to get on the AC standard anyway so wasn't overly annoyed!

     

    Since testing it over the weekend it seems that my Wi-Fi issues have been resolved. I haven’t had a single drop or had to toggle the Wi-Fi switch on/off to get it the connection live again. Speeds have been consistent and this is across all my devices including :

     

    iPhone 6 Plus

    iPad Air 2

    iPhone 5S

    Macbook Pro Retina – 2012 non AC version

     

    I hope this lasts but so far so good although I appreciate this is a deep routed iOS 8 problem that only occurs with certain router brands / chipsets. 

     

    Either way apple need to resolve this in the next update for the vast majority of us and  this certainly shouldn’t force us to upgrade our existing equipment!

    My wife's iPhone 5S has had the WiFi disconnects ever since I updated it from 7.1.2 to 8.0.2 nearly a month ago.  I've not updated it to version 8.1 because so many comments suggest that 8.1 doesn't help.  Note that her phone was ROCK SOLID at 7.1.2, as is my iPad 2.  I've tried all of the tips, tricks, and tweaks recommended on the Apple boards but nothing has helped.  Interestingly though, I also have the Linksys (Cisco) EA4500 router.  Your post now has me wondering about this router and iOS 8.  I'd try the same ASUS router you're now using, but really shouldn't HAVE to buy a new router.  Ironically, that's money I WAS planning to spend on an iPhone 6, before the WiFi debacle that is.  Anyone one else using this router?

    Same here... Iphone 5s updated to iOS 8 then 8.0.1, then 8.0.1 and I am still unable to see an online movie, play an online game or even surf the net without continuous wifi drops. I am tired of usinf the WiFi toggle.

     

    After being an Apple loyal user for years, please Apple fix this or I will switch to any mobile that WORKS.

    I'm trying to figure out this issue on my 5s, and have some interesting hunches. anyone mind answering/trying the following?

    1. In your home (or wherever you're seeing this) do you have intermittent cell signal too? I do, so I'm curious about others' scenarios.
    2. If you go to Settings -> Cellular and turn cell data off for the Settings app, do you still see the wifi issue? My wifi drop off isn't frequent enough to have tested this theory thoroughly yet.
    3. When you lose wifi, does the indicator in the status bar go away, or does it look like you have wifi but don't actually get any data?

    1. I have not noticed or had a problem with cell signal when I lose wifi connection.  I'll look for that the next time I lose wifi. I may have lost cell signal and just don't know it.

     

    2. The only thing I've tried is turning wifi off and back on, but that didn't help.  The only fix I've found is just re-starting the iphone, you know turning iphone off and back on.  It does cure the problem and I always get my connection back after I do the restart.

     

    3.When I lose wifi I still have the indicator saying I have wifi, but no wifi.

     

    This thing seems to happen to my iphone 5S and my wife's iphone 5 about every 4 to 7 days or so.

    Thanks for the answers. Interesting that it happens on the 5 also. That might debunk one of my guesses which is progress i guess!

     

    I should be more clear. For #2, I wanted to see if the cell disabling for Settings prevented the problem from happening, rather than fixing it when it does happen. Interesting that you have to reboot though. Toggling my wifi on and off usually fixes it for me.

    1. I have good cell reception. The phone disconnects from wifi and switches to cellular 3G automatically and stays on 3G. I have to toggle wifi off/on or go to settings and choose to connect to my wifi network manually. Locking and unlocking the screen also usually reconnects to wifi. Maybe the wifi signal is weak for the 5S? My old 3GS and Macbook Pro have full bars and no connection problems though. I have to say, that for me, 8.1 made the 5S more stable with wifi than 8.0.2 was.

     

    2. Disabling cellular data from settings forces the phone to stay on wifi.

     

    3. When the phone loses wifi connection, the indicator disappears.

    I have got new wifi router and reseted and turned it on/off and performed all possible resets on the phone, and restored it from backup and as a new phone. Still, the wifi disconnection problem has not gone away. I am starting to think, that maybe the problem is with the wifi hardware of the phone. I started to notice the problem after installing ios 8.0. Then 8.0.2 did nothing and 8.1 made the phone more stable with wifi, so I have believed that it may have been the problem with software rather than hardware. I went to local Apple Service provider and they told without diagnosing, that it looks like software problem. At home, the wifi indicator on the phone fluctuates constantly from three to one bar, whereas Macbook Pro at the same location shows constant full bars and has no problems with wifi connection. So it may actually be the phone wifi hardware too. I think I have to take my 5S to diagnostics, even that they told me, if I wanted to diagnose my phone being still under one year Apple warranty, they would have to charge €32 diagnostic fee, if it would come out that the problem was with the software not with the hardware.

    Just to let you know I upgraded to the Asus RT-AC68U last weekend and have been running my Air 2, 6 Plus and 5S perfectly now for a week without any wifi Issues.

     

    These are all on the 5Ghz network and working at full speed.

    I tried everything too. The Wifi is terribly slow and erratic. Sometimes it connects and sometimes you just have to wait for a few minutes or hours for it to start working again. Hence, while the Wifi does not connect (though it shows that it is connected), I am forced to use my Cellular 3G data (which I do not want to, while I am at home or office with easy Wifi connectivity).

     

    Never faced this problem prior to iOS 8.

    This needs sorting, it has got to the point where I know my wifi password by heart, I never had this problem before updating, come on Apple get it sorted, I've been a loyal customer since the release of the first iPhone but now I'm thinking of going elsewhere.
