Q: Why does iOS 8.0.2 not resolve the issue of WiFi connectivity with iOS 8 and the new iPhone 6?

My iPhone 6 is still randomly disconnecting from my home WiFi, even after the latest OS update.  My spouse also has an iPhone 6 and has experienced no issues with WiFi connectivity.  When I spoke with Apple earlier in the week, I was told that they were aware of this issue with iOS 8 and would be working on a solution that should be released in 24 hours.  I have a $700+ phone that doesn't stay connected to WiFi.  Ridiculous.  Apple really needs to get it together.  This is the worst OS release yet.

    Have you turned your Router off for 30 seconds Also try a reset go to settings at bottom of page reset network settings on iPhone After Reset you need to enter your Router wireless key. This worked for me. Bsydd UK

    I have tried every "reset" under the sun and the ONLY thing that works for me is to turn Cellular Data Off when I'm on a wifi network.  If not, I will drop constantly.  Also, I have noticed that my voice mails don't come through correctly.  In fact, I received one voice mail message a WEEK after the person left it.  No idea why.  I am so disappointed, since this is my third iphone 6.  I don't know why but this phone is still full of bugs.  I guess apple should have done more testing.  I have decided that I'm going to switch providers and get a Samsung Galaxy S5 as soon as possible.  The Samsungs don't seem to have all these troubles.

    This is what I do often at home too. On my iPhone (5s, running iOS 8.1) the wifi indicator still shows connected, but at some point the wifi connection actually stops working. By turning off cellular data, when the wifi connection stops working, the wifi is forced to reconnect instead of just using the cell connection. Of course, I probably should worry about missing MMS and voicemails . If cell data is more crucial for someone reading this, another option is to turn off cell data for specific apps (like Mail, You Tube, or whatever you're using heavily) while you're at home.

     

    It's probably time I work harder at reliably reproducing the disconnect so I can figure out what is happening.

     

    Curious thought for folks who use OSX as well. If you open the Console app (you can type Console in the search box in the upper right corner of the screen to find it), do you see many messages with the phrase mDNS or bonjour? I'm also chasing a lot of angry zero-conf/bonjour/mdns messages on my network, and they could be related.

    I agree! I have tried everything, and till date, the wifi does not work properly. It's like now half the time it works, and the other half I just HAVE to turn on my 3G even though my Internet connection is working absolutely fine on my laptop, etc. Extremely disappointed and tired.

    iOS 8.1.1 has just been released, for anyone willing to brave that.  I hope it fixes it for you guys.

    I'm definitely giving it a shot. Backing up now and updating in a few. Will share if I have anything exciting to share.

    BE CAREFUL WITH UPDATING!!!  When I updated my second iphone 6 to ios 8.1, it RUINED the phone.  It would go from "No Service" at all on Verizon to Verizon 1x.  The phone would not roam at all and the wifi was no better either.  I had to send the phone back to apple and start over.  I will NEVER update my phone again.  I learned my lesson the hard way.  You've been warned.

    Updating will not "destroy" any phone that didn't already have a hardware issue necessitating replacement.

    Updated to 8.1.1 iPhone 5s .... So far so good - if it stops or goes into intermittent wifi I will post it -  great so far and not had one issue with update !

    Sadly NO the update did NOT fix my iPhone 5s .... Still losing WIFI ... Same as exactly before !!!!

     

    WHy why is this so complex for Apple to fix , what they in fact broke to begin with.

    I had the wifi connectivity issues with my iPhone 5S - it would disconnect randomly from wifi and switch to cellular data network at places, where computers and other phones had no issues. The phone would not switch back to wifi without manually turning wifi off and on, search wifi networks or locking and unlocking the screen. I noticed the problem after installing iOs 8.0. I did not install ios 8.0.1, but installed 8.0.2 that did not make much difference. Then I got the new wifi ruouter and installed the 8.1 that made the phone more stable with wifi, but the problem did not go away. Since I had my phone still under warranty, I took it do Apple dealer. After testing they told, that the wifi module is faulty in 2.4 GHz bandwidth, and replaced the phone under warranty.

     

    So today I have been able to test my replaced 5S with three versions of iOs- 7, that it came with, then 8.1, and last the 8.1.1 that was released a week ago. The phone was very stable with wifi with iOs 7, but with both iOs 8.1 and 8.1.1 I have had a couple of occasions, where the phone has switched off the wifi to cellular data network and has not switched back automatically. I have had to switch wifi on/off or choose to connect manually.

     

    It seems that the 5S has weaker wifi reception, than the old 3GS that I had before, as with 3GS I had never such wifi connection issues at home and at my workplace as with the 5S. Also seems, that all versions of iOs 8 so far seem to have trouble keeping the steady wifi connection. But still, if you have wifi issues with your phone still under warranty, and you have an Apple dealer in your area, you should get your phone tested, to rule out the hardware issues. With those couple of dropouts that I have had in two weeks, I can say that the phone is very much usable again.

    Here's what I did to solve my ongoing WiFi connectivity problems (been up and running for a day anyway).

    Note I am running Yosemite 10.0:

     

    - Uninstall Torch browser -- not as easy as you'd think, I found it had a process called alerterdaemon that was crashing constantly. Not sure if this impacted my WiFi, but looked pretty bad so I deleted everything I could find associated with Torch browser

    - Perform a factory reset of Apple Time Machine / Airport Extreme and allow it to reconfigure itself (not a hard reset, a factory reset)

    - Manually (statically) select your 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels -- don't allow Airport to automatically select the WiFi channels for you (I understand Yosemite has some new Peer-to-Peer features that can wreak havoc with WiFi). Don't select 5GHz channel 149 for your WiFi network as the new P2P uses this.

    - Use Yosemite's built-in Wireless Diagnostics to perform a scan to determine the best WiFi channels to use

     

    So far has worked for me...

    I did not download 8.1 until last weekend. Nothing changed.....EXCEPT that now I cannot get wifi on the home networks I was receiving. Up until 8.1, I could get my home wifi but not public ones. NOW home wifi is not available if I'm on 4G.

     

    I'm beginning to think that this is some sort of plan for the cellular service companies to get their data charges.

     

    I've sent feedback to Apple on more than one occasion. I'm also telling everyone I see NOT to purchase the iPhone 6 and DEFINITELY do not download any update, most definitely not 8.0 or after.

    If updating OS's doesn't cause the problem, why, then, did my iPad suddenly start having wifi connectivity problems after updating to 8.0?
