Netflix & OSX Maverick unable to confirm Silverlight developer?

Just got a Macbook Pro, updated to OSX Mavericks, and wanted to watch Netflix but was told I had to download MS Silverlight. I tried, but got the pop up saying the developer was not recognized and I could not open the application. I'm a bit befuddled as I pay to use Netflix. Whats the solution?

First, be sure to download Silverlight from its developer, Microsoft. Its download site is here: http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/

Do not download it, or anything else for that matter, from a source other than one known to be legitimate.

Then, you may need to temporarily modify Gatekeeper's settings. Gatekeeper is designed to prevent inadvertent installation of untrustworthy software. To learn about Gatekeeper read OS X: About Gatekeeper
