Default Search Engine Not Working

I updated to Safari 7.1 this morning and tried switching my default search engine under Preferences to 'DuckDuckGo'. My searches still default to Google. I've tried restarting Safari but to no avail. I also noticed that if I try to change the search engine to DuckDuckGo in the drop down on the right side of the search bar, DuckDuckGo is not even listed. My understanding is that support for this browser was added in 7.1. Am I missing something?

Hi ..

You're not missing anything. It could be corrupted Safari preferences. It happens on occasion after an update.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari then set DuckDuckGo as your default search engine.

Make sure your OS X software is up to date.

Click the Apple  top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click: Software Update

If your software is up to date it might be a cookies, cache, or extensions issue ..

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.

Click: Remove All Website Data

Then delete the cache.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
