Podcasts not updating since 8.0.2 update

I had been having trouble occasionally with the podcasts app not showing new episodes since getting my iPhone 6 last week, but restarting it cleared the problem. Since updating to 8.0.2 today though it has stopped completely. I know new episodes are available but the app refuses to show them despite restarting several times now. has anybody else has the same problem or any ideas how to resolve it? My iPad is also on 8.0.2 but working fine.
