how do I retrieve a stickies file from time machine

I recently had my computer cleaned and I lost a load of important Stickies.

Luckily (I thought!) I had everything backed up on Time Machine.

However, I can't find the file anywhere.

I read on the forum that it was to be found in 'library' under 'stickiesdatabase' but I can't find anything at all saying 'stickies' anywhere.

To compound the problem I am unable to do a search on the external drive. For some reason I can't work out, I can click the external drive option to search but it finds nothing at all. It simply doesn't seem to work.

I reckon I'm doing something really dumb but can't work it out at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Note: the User's Library is hidden by default. It's also hidden in Time Machine. You have to be in the User's Library in order to restore items from Time Machine.

Under Go in the Menu bar hold down the Option key and select Library.

Scroll down to the 'stickiesdatabase'

If you don't see the file, open Stickies and create a new test sticky. This will create the 'stickiesdatabase' file.

Once you see the file, select the file.

Enter Time Machine.

You should enter in your User's Library showing the file.

Go back in time to when your actual file existed with your data.

Select Restore.
