Q: iPad 2 with iOS 8.0.2 - still no service

Yesterday i updated my iPad 2 with iOS 8.0.2. Today the same bug: no service after a couple of hours. Its not a good user experience if you are on the way or in a meeting with a customer and you can't use internet because of no service.

Apple has released iOS 8 with support for the good old iPad 2, but seems not interested in fixing this bug. Its a shame. Over years i'am a satisfied customer of Apple products, but in last time i am not very satisfied. Apple has to confirm and to fix this bug. On my bug report in Apple Bug Reporter still no reaction.

I've been experiencing the same  "no service" problem on my iPad 2 since upgrading to IOS 8, 801 & 8.02. I have tried all of the fixes, but have had to continually rese the network settings. Today, I synced to the latest version of iTunes, after upgrading to Yosemite. The 3G is working again. Prior to this I hadn't synced since upgrading the iPad to 8.  Maybe a tethered sync is the answer.

I'm glad you got some functionality back. I only sync connected to my iMac, and I still have all sorts of problems with my iPad 2 running 8.0.2. It might be Yosemite that did the trick, but Apple has made it pretty clear over the last couple of weeks that early adopters are fools (present company excluded) to be used as uncompensated beta testers, so it'll be a while before I trust my business and data to an Apple software upgrade.

Thanks, I'll try that. I also got the message about updating to Yosemite.

Upgraded to 8.1. It seems to be even worse, if that's possible. Tonight when I have more time I'll wipe the iPad 2 and see if it runs any better as an off-the-shelf OS - It looks bleak. I have a new one waiting for me at home- FedEx tracking confirmed delivery today- but I had hoped to offset some of the cost by selling this one. It looks like it's no better than a brick now. Thanks, Apple.

So you're saying that resetting the network settings isn't a solution? I actually haven't lost the 3G connection since I reset the network settings yesterday (8.0.2, did also sync with the latest version of iTunes)

Now someone mentions that the 8.1 update makes everything worse so I think I'll wait a while. :S

Do NOT upgrade your IPAD 2 to the 8 or 8.02 (the fix). Nothing but problems, losing cellular and have to turn off and on to regain.   Ive spoken with Apple and they seem to be in total denial that its a widespread problem. They (after getting  past the $19 entry fee to talk to them) sent me the instructions to delete and reinstall which has done nothing more then have more problems. I havent upgraded my IPHONE 5S to  it , I'm just going to ignore the RED 1 over the Settings icon.

Its a disgrace  they dont care, this is the planned absolesence to keep you buying!

It IS  disgrace that they don't care, but I don't think it's planned obsolescence- I think it's just incompetence. A simple visit to the Genius Bar or a call to tech support will show that no one at the lower echelons at Apple really has a clue about the products once they leave engineering.

Call apple support and tell then you demand to be made whole- ask to be escalated to a supervisor. I got $70 worth of accessories from the apple store just by making my case. I talked the representative up from $50. someone more persuasive might have been able to get him up to $100. It doesn't really help with my problem- my iPad 2 is still bricked- but it cost Apple a couple of bucks. If everyone whose iPad 2 was ruined calls and gets a concession they might think twice about their sloppy business practices.

    Update:

while led waiting for 8.1 I decided to to a total reset on 8.0.2. I set the iPad up as a New IPad as I expected a backup/restore might bring the problem back. (I used the CopyTrans program to save my photos, messages etc so I could load these back up afterwards without bringing back some corrupt settings). While the problem persisted after the erase and re-config, it was definitely an improvement. I only experienced No Service 3 times in six days, rather than the 3 or 4 times a day I had beforehand.  I also found that by going to Settings/iCloud - in portrait mode only! - caused the device to search for service and reconnect to my carrier. (I hadn't yet restored anything from my CopyTrans save, so it was a bare-bones Apple 'New iPad' with no contamination).

I Have now upgraded to 8.1 and after 36 hours I have not had the problem. So, 8.1 is looking good for me.  I hope others have as much success.

WHy why can't Apple just communicate with its customers, acknowledge issues and let us know it is working on a solution?  Saying nothing and not admitting to faults just gives a usually great company a sinister uncaring appearance. Nothing in this world is perfect every time. I expect bugs with new products and releases, and would be tolerant of reasonable delays in getting a fix - if Apple would just own up and communicate its remedial plans. (End of rant!)

I already did! I got iOS 8 when it was released. Disaster!

    BUT

As of recently, I haven't had any problems after resetting the network settings. (I'm currently running 8.0.2 and the iPad has been synced with the latest version of iTunes (Windows)). I'll post an update if I lose the connection again...

(BTW: it takes years to download the 8.1 through iTunes, what's the problem?)

Update: Just lost connection! It worked for about 24 hours...

Can anyone report how their connection behaves in iOS 8.1?
