Q: iPad 2 with iOS 8.0.2 - still no service

Yesterday i updated my iPad 2 with iOS 8.0.2. Today the same bug: no service after a couple of hours. Its not a good user experience if you are on the way or in a meeting with a customer and you can't use internet because of no service.

Apple has released iOS 8 with support for the good old iPad 2, but seems not interested in fixing this bug. Its a shame. Over years i'am a satisfied customer of Apple products, but in last time i am not very satisfied. Apple has to confirm and to fix this bug. On my bug report in Apple Bug Reporter still no reaction.

My connection under 8.1 behaves poorly, just as before. I found that changing briefly between languages kicks it into search mode.

I have upgraded to 8.1 and finally have complete success!  I have not lost the connection to AT&T for about 30 hours.  Other issues I was having (such as the ipad just turning off) seem resolved too.   I'm pretty confident that my connectivity issues are resolved with this upgrade because I was not able to maintain a cellular connection once the ipad was put to sleep.

Thanks Grfff, that workaround was just what I needed .. it is happening to almost daily and this is so much faster than the whole switch off/on

    cheers !

THe 8.1 works for me too. In 36 hours no signs of mess! I mean, the no service problem may have been soved.

Yesterday I went to my Apple Store to cry out my frustration. They suggested updating to 8.1 - and as the situation can't get worse I did yesterday evening.

Believe it or not: seems to work! No service issue since then, and my iPad runs a lot faster than with 8.0.2

So, if you're frustrated, give 8.1 a try...

    IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!

8.1 seriously seems to have solved the connectivity problem! I am once again a free man.

    Update:

My iPad 2 connectivity worked flawlessly from the day I installed 8.1.1 on 21 Oct until Sunday 30 Nov.  At that point I again lost carrier connectivity.   I checked with my carrier (3.ie) to make sure my account wasn't suspended for non-payment or something, as I had been away for a few weeks and I thought perhaps I had neglected to pay my bill.  I never thought for a moment that the old 8.0.1 issue could be back.

Unfortunately it is back. If I leave the iPad idle for any appreciable length of time I loose connectivity.  The old tricks of switching (in landscape mode only) to Airplane Mode and back, or opening iCloud Settings to force a network search no longer work.  As of today, the only way to resolve the issue and get connectivity back is a full power-off or reset.

A week after this went wrong Apple quietly released 8.1.2.  Aha! I thought. They've broken something and are bringing out a quick fix.  I updated to 8.1.2 yesterday, but no joy - the connectivity bug is still there.  Anybody else in trouble?

Annoyingly after having cell service (Bell Canada) without problem since the first release of iOS 8, today I get the dreaded "No Service" on my iPad 2. :/

Tried everything to no avail and get a message stating, "Restricted Network. Your selected cellular network is restricted. Choose another network in Settings" which ofcourse gets me nowhere.

I had same problem at around that time with my iPhone, I sent complaint to Apple about it (I originally thought it was Vodafone problem, as I have a SureSignal Box, as reception at home is shocking... but then noticed NO SERVICE happening anywhere and everywhere).  I gain some comfort seeing it wasn't just me..... meaning I always think Ive done something wrong, got a damaged iPhone etc, so to see others saying similar makes me realise... Im not just a dumb blonde after all!  The experience has made me decide NOT to UPDATE software
