Sep 26, 2014 1:43 PM in response to ianusgby Ralph Landry1,★HelpfulThe power adapter will warm a bit when in use, mine is just barely warm to the touch. They should not be hot, however. If you believe yours is too hot, as in uncomfortable to hold, take the computer and charger to an Apple store and have the techs check them out to see what is wrong. If it is too hot you don't want to push to the point of a short circuit.

Sep 26, 2014 1:50 PM in response to ianusgby Ralph Landry1,★HelpfulTo see if the power adapter is working correctly, go to the apple left side of the menu bar, About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Hardware > Power and then look at the AC Charger Information, see that the reported wattage and part are correct. Such as:
Mine isn't charging right now, just running on line power.

Sep 26, 2014 2:18 PM in response to Traceykateby Ralph Landry1,No, I am on my 15" MacBook Pro (2011 machine) right now. I just did that screen shot as an example of what to look for. The real concern is that the wattage and type of charger are being registered correctly, that the charger isn't failing and giving the wrong info.

Sep 26, 2014 2:21 PM in response to Traceykateby ianusg,The 45W power unit for he MBA 11" also gets warm to same level as the 60W for the 13"MBPr. So it seems that power unit getting warm during operation is normal. Tomorow I'll try powering the MBA with the 60W power unit. Assuming it will be more 'relaxed' it should not get as warm. If that works out I am tempted to purchase an 85W unit for the MBPr.

Sep 26, 2014 2:22 PM in response to Traceykateby Ralph Landry1,As a side note, to identify the power adapter for the Mac laptops:Intel-Based Apple notebooks: Identifying the right power adapter and power cord
And he power cord just slides off to be replaced by the cord with the correct plug for the country's outlet, such as the UK vs US style outlet...the charger is the same, all you change is the plug...neat way to go
