iTunes Store and AppStore won't open

I need to update my MacBook Pro, however I cannot access the iTunes Store or the AppStore. Both work just fine on my new iPhone 6. Any ideas? MacBook is old, but I have kept it up-to-date. I see the icon for the update on the AppStore icon, but it says the store is unavailable. iTunes Store just sits there, however my iTunes Library is just fine. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you can't connect to the iTunes store. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
