    Update it as described in this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware, which is iOS 8.0.2 for devices with a dual-core processor.

    Thank you Niel, but I do not have the update and install option for some reason.  I had previously read your reply to someone else but it did not work for me.  My IPad2 is updated to 7.0.1
