Why can I no longer export images in Numbers to Excel?

Numbers 3.2.2

MacBook Air 1.3GHz i5; Memory 4Gb 1600MHz DDR3

OS X updated 24 September 2014

In previous versions I have been able to export images within the Numbers file to and Excel file. I was able to do this up to three weeks ago!
Now when I export to Excel the Images are being removed. This is extremely inconvenient as I use this product to generate reports to my executives across Asia and this is no longer possible with this product. Every other member uses Excel for this report and I am not on the outside, unable to participate fully in the conversations or modifications to critical performance reports!

Would you please advise how I can now continue to use Numbers to:

a. Generate this report type

b. Review reports provided to me

c. Update and return reports provided for review and contributions?

Thank you

I can confirm Excel does not support images posted into a cell as a background. If you paste an image into a cells as a back ground then export to excel, Numbers will strip out the image. IF the image is pasted into the sheet, then image will remain in the document.

If Apple wants Numbers to be taken seriously they need to make sure that Numbers users can fully export their spreadsheets to an Excel file. I prefer to use Numbers because I find it user friendly when compared to excel. All my contacts use Excel though so I need Numbers to export all my data properly. Unfortunately for Apple, they are the ones that need to conform to what Microsoft has created if they want their product to be useable.. Not vice versa.

i Also have noticed images won't export out to the excel file.

Dean,

1) I suggest if your job depends on a particular tool you that tool. My suggestion is to purchase Excel and use the same tool as everyone else. For times then you need not share with other use Excel.

2) I dropped an image in a Numbers file then exported to excel using the menu item "File > Export To > Excel..." then opened the file in LibreOffice (a free office clone). That worked fine. So I cannot confirm your reported problem. Can you share what version of Numbers you are using? Have you tried restarting your computer? What about have your tried a simple test where you create a new document, then drop a picture into that file and then export to excel? Maybe the document you are using is corrupt.

JG,

You will have to be very specific about what does not export from Numbers to excel. I have really good experiences with exporting from Numbers to Excel.

There maybe things Excell cannot do that Numbers can (and Numbers will warn you when you export)-- like filling a cell with an image. There are also Things excel can do that Numbers does not support (array functions).

I cannot confirm your statement that Numbers does not export images. I pasted an image into a sheet, then exported to excel. This worked fine.

Perhaps you can share some specific items and we can work through them

Wayne,

What I am trying to do is place an image into a cell so it aligns with a row of data that the image corresponds to. Is the answer to paste the image into the sheet instead of into a cell then? I will try and see what it looks like. The concern I would have is how to make sure it is aligned with that row of data, especially if the data is sorted differently than I have it sorted.

In excel... Try to paste an image into a cell. You will not be able to do this because Excel does not support that feature. When you paste an image into a cell in Numbers, then try to export the document to excel, apple knows that Excel does not support this so they strip out images stored in cells.

Paste the images on to the canvas of the sheet. Then export to Excel.
