No, sorry. Why should Apple do that? You bought iPhoto for iOS 7 and it is still working for iOS 7. Apple's AppStore licence does not promise, that the apps will work with future versions of the operating system or on newer hardware. and is not compulsory to update to newer system versions, that render older software obsolete. In the case of iPhoto there should have been a warning, that iPhoto would no longer work after upgrading. Apple - iPhoto - Feedback

Apple provided a way to migrate your iPhoto Library to Photos:

Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8

And some help to find your photos in Photos:

Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8

But granted; the demise of iPhoto is a sad loss. And we can only hope, that future updates of Photos will bring back more of the missing functionality of iPhoto.

iOS updates should enhance the features offered by the current OS, especially if their customers are paying extra to have the features, not just disable them and make the apps go away. If you honestly believe what you're saying here, "no, why should this multi-billion dollar corporation issue a refund?" then your judgment is significantly clouded. Apple should give a refund.

I wish you good luck for trying to get this refund.

No system upgrade will guarantee that older applications compiled for a previous system version will run.

What I want from Apple are updates for the Photos.app, that will bring back the basic functionality of iPhoto. Right now there is too much missing.

"No, sorry. Why should Apple do that?"

    Very simple .

I bought it for both my iPhone and iPad ($10) and I used it for editing.

If Apple want to do the right thing, they should at least issue a credit toward your Apple (iTunes) account.

It is a legal question and not a question of  "the right thing".

You bought iPhoto in version that works with iOS 7 of iPad and iPhone. It worked, and you used it. It would still be working, if you had not installed a different operating system. The product, does exactly, what you paid for. You could only claim a refund, if iPhoto did not work on iOS 7.

iPhoto is ok., but the iOS 8 upgrade was not.  Apple should have provided more information, with the iOS 8 update, when we were prompted to upgrade.  The installer let iPhoto users upgrade to iOS 8 without a clear warning, that iPhoto would stop to work completely. And there was no warning, that the successor "Photos" is still lacking in editing capabilities and  provides no way to recover books and journals. We could only discover this relevant details by doing the upgrade, with no way back, since downgrading is not supported. And now we are left with "Photos", without the editing brushes, info panels for the photos, tags and captions, journals and books.

You brought up a good point .

I had to dig deep in "Photos" to locate the rotate tool (go to crop).

Photos is way far to meeting anyone's expectations at this point in time. I can't go back to iOS 7 to get iPhoto.

We're stuck with this mediocre app.

    Thanks again for your insight.

I can't really understand how and why you are so blind.

apple has stolen our webjournals. period.

it was not expectable that an app which we bought will not work under iOS 8 and that we loose our webjournals.

That is what I meant with " Apple should have provided more information, with the iOS 8 update, when we were prompted to upgrade.  The installer let iPhoto users upgrade to iOS 8 without a clear warning, that iPhoto would stop to work completely". Only it does not change anything about the legal situation.

All you guys who want a refund should write to apple and give feedback that you want either the app or the money back. Its only way they are going to listen.
