Q: When initiating Facetime call, my iPad calls itself

Testing FaceTime: personal iPhone and work iPad side-by-side on same WiFi network. iOS7 on both devices.

When I try to call the iPad from my phone, the call appears on the iPad and is accepted but it always fails.
When I try to call the iPhone from the iPad, the iPhone does nothing but the iPad rings.

I see that the iPad doesn't display a FaceTime icon for the email address associated with my iPhone. There is just FaceTime, without any indication which email address I want to connect to (the email address associated with my iPhone). The email addresses only have message and voice options.

That means that both devices have at least one common email address/phone number in Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached at. It is like trying to call yourself on a phone,

Uncheck email address/phone number as necessary to eliminate that or make sure you are not call an email address/phone number not listed on both devices.

Thanks, but that is not the case here. My iPad from work has only one item in the list - my work email. My iPhone has only one item in the list - my iPhone phone number.

Still trying to figure this one out.

How are you calling the other device?

If yo go to the Contact you are using are both the Phone number and email address listed?

Try creating a new contact (different name) with one one listed.

A few days ago I synced my settings between my iPhone and my Mac. It screwed up my email on my iPhone and one of my email accounts couldn't connect with a server. I have no idea where the corruption came from.

After trying all sorts of things I deleted the account from my iPhone and set it up again. Now FaceTime works.

Thanks for your efforts with this.

This is via FaceTime rather than via the Contacts app. I only have one address for each device that shows up on the list. The problem was solved by deleting one of the accounts in Mail and then setting it up again.

    Thanks.
