We use an XServe (10.6.8, "latest" hardware version) connected to a Dell Equallogic SAN by ATTO iSCSI initiator.
We noticed decreased performance by measuring I/O, affected third-party services, leading recently to a damaged HFS+ formatted LUN.
No disk utilities could repair it, except by mounting (in "emergency mode") to a newer OSX system.
One week to copy 1TB… No SAN hardware problem according to Dell support.
New LUNs connected to this XServe work very well.
What may be the cause of such a problem (SAN, XServe, network, iSCSI software) ?
