Ditto to the download of the latst ITunes and Error 1418. Talk about being disappointed with the IPod Shuffle. It seems that once the warranty period experied I have been unable to get the thing working properly. (lights flashing then recently the error 1418).

Look for some help on this so my daughter can enjoy her last years birthday present without drama.

There are a couple of things to try.

Connect the iPod and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
When it does, click on the iPod name.
Then, click on the small triangle to the left of the iPod.
Click on "music"
You should now be looking at what (if anything) is on the iPod
Click Edit > Select All
Click Edit > Clear
Then, go back to the 'settings' tab and try to restore the iPod.

IF THAT DOESN'T WORK:
In the 'settings' tab, click the option to enable disk use
Click apply
Try the restore again

IF THAT DOESN'T WORK:
Quit iTunes
Click on Start, right click on My Computer and click on Manage
Wait for the computer to connect to the Logical Disk
It should have your iPod listed under the 'C' drive
Right click on the iPod and click on format
The settings should be as follows:
-Volume Label = iPod
-File System = FAT32
-Allocation unit size = default
The other options should be unchecked
Click OK to start the format
See if you can restore the iPod when it's done.

Let me know how it goes

I just talked to an awesome specialist & he had me try to unplug my printer & said it may be competing for USB space. So I held the menu & select button (center) at the same time, disconnected the iPod, disconnected my printer, re-connected my iPod and it worked!!!!

Good luck & hope it works for you

I have an ipod video 60G which i bought october of last year.

I also got that error 1418 thing after updating to itunes 7.0.2. Everytime I try to restore, my ipod would stop responding, which ofcourse would lead me to unplugging the ipod improperly from my computer (Macbook Pro). I brought my ipod to an apple center after many tries and they were able to restore the ipod using an older version of itunes. Stupid me I reconnected the ipod to my computer again, hoping i could replace my music back into the ipod - then there it was again - ipod needs to be restored... error 1418.

I decided to uninstall my itunes and reinstall the older version. When i reconnected my ipod... poooof!.... the display went out, and i could no longer turn it on. In short, my ipod now is a piece of crap. It's hopeless because even Apple doesn't have a solution to it. Is this one was of eliminating the older ipods and making us buy the newer ones, which, honestly, doesn't seem to be practically better than the last ones?

I hope i could still revive my ipod. too bad It's out of warranty.

My advice: tell others not to download the new itunes yet.
Stop trying with itunes 7.0.2
Use the older version to restore.
