Raining Objects

Hello everyone,

im a FCPX newbie and i have a question,

I have to create a rain of png images, a lot of different ones. I know i can set every single keyframe for position, rotation, but it's just too long.
Is there a plugin, or a way in general, to make this easier?
Thank you!

Try this: http://sight-creations.com/fxexchange/FrameRain.zip

How to use it:

Add all your PNGs to a timeline at 1 frame length and add a gap to fill out how long you want the effect to run. Select the PNGs and the gap and create a compound clip. Add the Frame Rain effect to the compound clip. You will need to create the animation from that point. Below are the parameters:

User uploaded file

When this is applied, the "frames" in the image sequence you've created will line up at the top of the screen (in a 1080 project.) They will be pre-scaled to 20% their normal size (adjustable). Use the Vertical Start Offset to move them off the screen completely after you've determined how you want the images scaled. Adjust the Included Frames parameter to add more copies (there will be repeats!)

The animation is created by setting the End Position, End Rotation, and End Opacity (you can fade them out before they leave the screen.) Larger numbers will result in faster animations.

Use the Spread to control how many are on the screen at a time (will be dependent on Included Frames.)

If your "Included Frames" is greater than the number of actual frames (# of images) there will be frames taken from the added Gap. You can select all the actual image frames and duplicate them numerous times within the length of the compound clip to increase the number of images showing.

Here's a demo:

I used 34 pngs (free social icon set) to create the image sequence. I added enough of a gap to create a 15 second clip. Created the compound clip and added the effect. There are the parameters I used:

I'll try to address the most common issues.

Are you running the latest version of FCPX (10.1.3)? I created the effect with the latest version of Motion and it might not be compatible with older versions of FCPX.

Is this the first plugin you've installed?

Inside your user/home folder, there is a Movies folder. Inside there is a Motion Templates folder and inside that are the Effects, Generators, Titles and Transitions folders (if they don't exist, you may create them yourself — they are case sensitive). All of these folders need to be localized. Right click on each and select Get Info. In the Name & Extension section, make sure that these folders have been .localized:

User uploaded file

User uploaded file(applies to Generators, Titles and Transitions as well.)

Add the .localized in the Get Info dialog and not in the Finder (notice that Hide Extension is not checked and in the finder, .localized will not appear as part of the name.)

Inside the Effects, Generators... folders are Category folders. These can have any name you like and it is important that when installing an effect inside a category that the folder structure of the effect is maintained: that is, a folder that has the name of the effect containing the motion project with the same name (and the extensions: moef, moti, motr, or motn), two PNG files ("large" and "small"), an optional preview .mov file and another folder called Media containing any extra media the project may need. It is also important that the correct TYPE of effect goes into the corresponding effect path (Effects, Generators... etc.)

If you're still having trouble, let me know.
