Can I update my IPod 4 (6.1.6) to IOS 8?

I have an IPod Touch 4th gen that runs on IOS 6.1.6. I was wondering if I could upgrade to IOS 8?

Some apps keep freezing, are slow and crash. Might it be because they're updated to work on more recent IOS version than my old one?

iOS 7 requires at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB

iOS 6 additionally requires a dual-core processor. The 4G iPod only has a singe core processor.

Apps crashing

See:

iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open

Contact the developer/go to their support site if only one app.

Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

Restore to factory settings/new iPod
