Hello illegal.e,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

To troubleshoot this issue of no service on your iPhone please follow the steps below.

If you're in your carrier's coverage area

Follow these steps, testing after each.

  1. Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Remove the SIM card. If the SIM card is damaged, worn, or bent, or if it's too big or small for the SIM tray, contact your carrier for a new one. Then reinsert the SIM card.
  4. Check for a carrier-settings update: Connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap Settings > General > About, and install any available carrier-settings updates. If you can't connect to Wi-Fi, connect your device to a computer that has iTunes.
  5. Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
  7. Contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues.
  8. Restore your iPhone.

If you see No Service while roaming or traveling

You might be outside of your carrier's coverage area. If you're traveling internationally, you'll need an international roaming plan to use your iPhone or iPad.

If you see No Service in the status bar of your iPhone or iPad

Take care,

Alex H.

Hi illegal.e,

For error code 16 when restoring your iPhone through iTunes, please follow the steps below.

Check for hardware issues

Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.

These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.

  1. Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
  2. Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
  3. Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
  4. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Resolve iOS update and restore errors

Take care,

Tried multiple computers...made sure security software was off or not installed and that I had connectivity to the network, but same error 16. Must be a hardware problem on the phone that came to light with 8.02. The phone was a refurb Apple gave me to replace my phone they broke during repairs. It was working fine on 8. Never ever have I had a problem with updates from Apple before this. I guess I will have to setup an appt with Apple, though my iPhone warranty already expired. I hope they can fix. Thanks Alex for all you help!
