Q: Can't delete word document in trash

I downloaded a document from google drive onto my computer in word document form, and then moved it to the trash when I was done with it. Now, when I try to empty the trash, it just says "The operation can’t be completed because the item “xyz.docx” is in use.". How do you get around this and delete the document?

In my case I've never had any single problem, so yes, is reliable. The trash cleanup is a very straight forward and simple task, you don't have to use it for another task if you do not like it. Like with any other software there will be complains, but in this case the positive reviews are far more than average.

All the problems I've heard of, are related with people who do automatic cleanups related to sensitve system files.

To make it simple, iOS 8 is full of bugs, terrible, and is Apple... But 46% of user installed the new OS in just 5 days. Feel free to decide for yourself or hope someone gives you a useful tip.

CleanMyMac is in no way reliable, it is junk, marketed misleadingly and supplied with a fake uninstaller to make it hard to remove.

So far you may have got lucky, don't recommend that others take that chance (and keep a good backup ready for the day that CMM trashes your Mac)

Please back up all data, then run one final shell command. This one produces no output. The file will be moved to a hidden folder, and then deleted automatically the next time you reboot. If you have any more such problems with Google Drive, I suggest you get rid of it.

    mv .T*/* /tmp/

This issue isn't that important and I'm not ready to backup my mac yet, so I'll try to do this later.

I had the same problem.  The original version of the Word document was sent to me by email.  I deleted that email and then was able to empty the Trash.
