Low volume on iPhone 6 plus

Hi,

So I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but my phone volume is very quiet (it can be difficult to hear people) when I am using my phone to talk. However when I play music the sound is very loud? Anyone else having this issue?

any recommendations for fixes are welcome!!

thanks all!!!

I Had same problem with my iPhone 6+ earpiece volume being extremely quiet. Almost sounded like the speaker moved over some and not centered with the opening. I tried all of the tricks online such as the hearing aid switch and turning off noise canceling. Nothing worked or made a difference.

Until I took a toothbrush and gently scrubbed and tapped on the speaker mesh where the earpiece is. I figured that skin cells must be clogging up the fine mesh material. Sure enough after doing that the volume is 3 times the loudness now. Looking at the mesh beforehand I could not see anything in there. It's such a fine mesh that it doesn't take much to clog it up apparently. Hope this helps someone.

Alas, just got my new iPhone 6+. I tried everything; earpiece is terribly low, almost unusable. So, I am back to my iPhone 5! Hope is a software issue otherwise the phone could be used only as a super mini ipad. And, outside the US, no retailer would be willing to change the unit for a new one -- plus that it would be of no avail, in my opinion. iPhone 6 plus looks like a giant with a ridiculously thin voice!

Kyrdem, Unfortunately, I do not think it is just a software issue. I am hearing impaired, but can hear the iPhone 5 OK. The iPhone 6 and 6+ I could not hear. I have found that if the hearing aid rating on a phone is M4 (as with the iPhone 5) I can usually hear it. Since the introduction of the iPhone 5s, Apple has dropped the hearing aid rating to M3.

Since the drop, I cannot hear the phones. I did some quick tests and found that with the iPhone 5 I could get 107.6db out of the earpiece. With the iPhone 6, I could only get a max of 95.2db. I am hoping the iPhone 6s is better, if not, I will have to switch to Android since there are several manufactures that actually make phones that are loud enough. That would be a sad day for me.

I have emailed several areas at Apple about this, and so far have only gotten form messages back.

Have you noticed that after you put it on mute ? Cause i have the issue that after i put my phone in silent mode(to take o sleep!!!) after that when i put the mute button again on ! The sounds of Viber , Whats UP , SMS is low ...! except i think call ringtone ! And i must play a song loud to start working sound properly ! But when i understand that problem i make this solution .... Othertimes either i dont understand the problem or it fixes alone ...!

There was some dirt in there, but it didn't help for me.

I have the iPhone 6+, while my wife still has a 5. I also have my old iPhone 5, which has no cell service of its own but can take calls as long as the 6+ is nearby. Both the 5 models have twice the volume of the 6+. I've tried all the ideas in this thread as well as other Apple discussion threads and on the web general and none have worked.

Interestingly, the volume used to be fine, but within the last week or so the volume crashed. Turning off Hearing Aid Mode (which some tips suggested turning ON) and noise cancellation helped some, but my phone is still barely half as loud as the 5 models I have.

Looks like I'm going to the Apple store. As this phone is about 6 months old, I suppose I can get a replacement. Assuming the problem isn't just inherent in the 6 models, which would pretty badly suck.

Have done exactly the same thing - I kept the protective plastic on to protect the iPhone before I purchased a case for it, and wondered why the volume was so low. I actually went so far as booking my iPhone 6 to be serviced by Apple as I was convinced it was faulty, and thought I'd check into a forum before I sent it off - glad I did. Whipped off the plastic and... it works perfectly. I feel like a bit of a chump...

Hello Chris, when talking to another person on the line and I could hardly hear what the person is saying. What I did is to put it on speaker phone and the volune is so high that I had to turn down the volume. I can hear the other person loud and clear. Solution It works on speaker phone, Try it and it did work for me.

I just got the iPhone 6S Plus today and had the same issue. Even with in-call volume set to the highest level I really struggled to hear the caller at the other end through the earpiece. Tried toggling "Noise Cancellation" and "Hearing Aid" setting in Accessibility but no luck. But I hadn't taken off the plastic off the screen yet. As soon as I removed it, it made a difference of day and night in the call volume.
