SearchMe is a part of the Spigot adware. The program dominic23 has recommended should get rid of it.
You may have gotten this adware by downloading something from CNET's Download.com. That site is known to wrap some of the software available through their site in an adware installer, against the wishes of the developer of the software in question. You should NEVER use Download.com, as it cannot be trusted.
It's malware. So is any other extension with the word "Spigot" in the description, and you may have several. There is absolutely no need to download anything to get rid of it. Just remove it like any other extension.
What bugs me is how it got installed. I'm installing Mavericks on an iMac for a friend, I installed some apple updates and it suddenly appeared. Thanks for the warning. I am always suspicious of apps that "suddenly appear", especially without my knowledge or permission.
If you installed Mavericks through the App Store, that's not how it got on the computer. All updates/upgrades of Apple products are done through the App Store, and Apple doesn't wrap its downloads in malware or adware.
SearchMe is installed with uTorrent and the Apple version of the "official" BitTorrent client (which is basically uTorrent).
I just used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free) to detect and get rid of it.
