Oct 6, 2014 2:27 AM in response to gideon5669by Prince_Romeo_84,No luck required
ITS FIXED!!!
So I'm going to take some responsibility here for blaming my guy with the brain and the screwdriver. To everyone with the helpful advice I am eternally grateful my fix unfortunately isn't anything that hasn't already been mentioned so apologies in advance
OK here's the fix NO tinyumberlla NO iRecovery NO replace the charge flex. It really is an annoyingly simple fix.
It is as simple as replacing the battery. I was at fault the first time round for not immediately connecting my phone with the replaced battery to my iTunes. The fix is replace the battery and IMMEDIATELY connect it to iTunes. Do not try a hard reset it or anything other than connect it to iTunes as soon as the battery has been replaced.
In short:
- Replace the battery
- Restore your phone
- Live your life
- Be Happy

Oct 20, 2014 4:09 PM in response to Prince_Romeo_84by Josh Hess,But can someone please explain why all of the sudden an update in software just kills a phone, my iPhone 4s stopped working today, the last week it has had many problems, many which i don't understand, so how does a software update end up killing a bunch of phones. I know they are somewhat updated but just how does it just ruin a battery?

Oct 21, 2014 6:18 AM in response to Josh Hessby Prince_Romeo_84,I wish I could explain why all of a sudden this fault has occurred. In terms of what I have read theres loads of different reasons but no official/definitive line from Apple which is annoying. How the software affects the battery I'll never know but know it works.

Dec 7, 2014 5:26 AM in response to coyotemargeby wvs@fan,@coyotemarge This worked for me as well. Tried all other things to get my iPhone 4s in restore mode but failed. I can't think why but the classic 'repair' method of giving a device a few bangs still works with something high-tech as an iPhone ;-)

Feb 26, 2015 5:02 PM in response to coyotemargeby Dreamaway,I would Like to add Via experiences that anything that breaks on or connected to the phone will cause an IOS update to fail and whipe out all the data......I have atleast 1 of EACH of US carriers' iphones 4s,5,5c,5s atm in hand....and ALL have the same problem. I think apple will change the battery free with any products with the A4 chipset and up (not too sure, please inquire as I read about it a WHILE ago....) as long as your unit is conditionally "presentable and absolute OEM. (reconmmend you try to Avoid, ebay or buying any SECOND hand batteries. There is no way to tell in any given moment that if your origional or replacing battery was good unless you plugged it in and hit "RESTORE" Well, Ultimately my cases where mostly batteries. its all luck from there, coz I have been at the spot where I had to buy and go thru 4-5 other batteries one after another untill problem fix or give up.....PRINCE ROMEO was SPOT ON on ANNOYING because (other than go thru apple) every single bettery that you are able to buy can be bad, this makes it so much harder to calculate the probability of weather your iDevice's memory module is giving out .....
Ive even been thru switching back and forth 3 "known bad batteries" and all of a sudden it restored after nNumber of tries.....so yes annorying....and yes lol good luck.
TIP TO ALL "OLDer" iDEVICE USERS, if you are experiencing that occasionally your iDevice dies rapidly. But.......you that clearly remember that you should still have have 10 - 20% left......if that happened to you already.....change it !! its only 15-30 bucks =)

May 15, 2015 10:09 AM in response to gideon5669by chrisfromelversele,Really thought this was a joke. But since I was out of options… I slammed my 4S against my hand palm a few times and after that a new iOS install and firmware update worked perfectly!!!! Had no problems with the last step — a sync in iTunes on my son his Mac. Everybody happy out here :-)))

May 27, 2015 3:02 PM in response to gideon5669by WorldTruthGaming,What the heck why would they release this update?
I have had my iphone for 3 years and never got an update.
However, yesterday I decided to update to IOS 8 so i could use the webcam on my twitch stream.
Today my iphone will not turn on. Coincidence? Planned obsolescence? You be the judged.
My phone was working flawlessly before and suffice it to say I am super angry right now.
IOS 8 broke my 4s I do not recommend getting this update for any reason;
it would be smarter to jail break your phone (I knew i should have jail broken it instead).
Spread the word that apple is practicing planned obsolescence; don't let them get away with it.

Aug 20, 2016 8:32 AM in response to gideon5669by cathryn66,For anyone searching this as i have just done - it seems that your iphone somehow knows when you have changed your battery - having bought a second hand iphone 4s with an aging battery i decided to upgrade with a high power one (double capacity) from ebay - the phone worked just fine until I did an upgrade to 9.whatever it was in august 2016... As the others posters have found i ended up with the plug into Itunes screen - and after many attempts and banging the battery as suggested (i am persistent and will try anything more than a few times) still no joy and no upgrade or reboot and wipe. I then changed the battery back to the original and voila it worked - it would only restore at this point but luckily i had an icloud backup from just the day before. so in conclusion - certainly non iphone batteries will cause this - because it knows...... and secondly always leave your automatic backup to icloud when plugged in set in the 'on' position. I do not know if other genuine iphone batteries will cause this if you change them as i havent tried one. i will be reverting to my high power battery and will be avoiding all future upgrades like the plague - I will also be keeping my old battery just in cases.....
