Q: Recovery mode not working with iPod

My daughter forgot her passcode and now her iPod is disabled. We've tried all the steps found in these two apple articles: "If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" and "iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled".

However, none of them are working. When we click on Restore, we get different responses, depending on the computer we're hooked up to. One says to disable "Find My iPhone" which we can't do since we're locked out of the iPod! Another computer starts the Restore process and then asks if it's okay for the computer to access this iPod. When we press "continue", then a pop up box says "To allow access, please respond your iPod touch...". Nothing has come up on the iPod asking us to trust the computer and the iPod lock screen looks the same as it did before we started the Restore process. The pop up box has a spinning striped line that only goes away if we press Stop. But then the whole process stops and we've gotten nothing accomplished - yet again. The same thing happens if we try to go in through Recovery Mode.

This has taken (way too many) hours of our time. All we want to do is reset the iPod to factory default and then restore it to last week's backup.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give us!!
