Q: Final Cut Express 4 - stalling, running slow and problems with RT layers

Hello,

I have a macbook pro 2,8 intel I7 16gb RAM 752 SSD, and I work with FCE4.0.1.

I'm using FCE4 for a while now, and from one day to another it began to stall or running very slow. I see the rainbow circle working all the time.

I also had and have problems with RT-layers, but that isn't comparable with the stalling.

I've changed RT, downloaded plug-in's,... Changed in users preference's etc...

I've been searching on the net but with no result.

I want to use FCPX, but you can not import older projects from FCE4. Apparently you can't even use life-type in FCPX.

It can't be a problem with the mac, maybe a computing or processing problem.

Can someone help me?

You are using OS 10.9.5? Did these problem coincide with OS software updates?

FCE was abandoned by Apple several years ago and is officially not supported. Anecdotal reports are iffy on the stability of FCE on late versions of Maveicks.

Is there lots of free space on your disk drives?

Have you tried trashing your FCE preferences (usually the first step when FCE/FCP begins to act in unexpected ways)?

You can download (free) Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion and it will do it correctly for you:

The same evening reinstalled it, and it works again. But this is more like a "microsoft-solution".

    Thanks
