how is that even remotely helpful? i have about 2TB of music. as it is, i have to downgrade from a 160GB ipod to the 128GB iphone, so, yeah, 14GB gone unaccounted for is a big deal. so if you can't actually answer the question, spare us your snark.

What on earth are you babbling about?  My response was neither snarky or lacking in explanation.  Maybe you need to learn something about how memory is counted on ALL computer devices before you spout out about what you clearly have no comprehension of.

I understand what you are saying.   I know those responses must be annoying.

Where are my GBs?  My phone is empty and it says I only have 114 to work with.... hmmmm... that s not right.

don't pay attending to the know nothings or the ones that spout of Captain Obvious stuff... you are right... there are gbs missing.... questions is why?

    I don't know yet...

That article does not explain it, because the discrepancy is too great.

It is clearly explained in the articles that I linked in the very first response.

This is nothing new or unusual.  Most computers and other memory driven devices report storage the same way.  Nothing out of the ordinary about this.  You can read the wikipedia explanation of gigabytes and the article on how Apple ( and most manufacturers report storage) and see exactly why.  It is no mystery.

Amazing all these levels of knowledge and not one correct answer..... Apple realized some people had used near the top end on storage capacity and might not have enough for new operating system updates. So what they are now doing is setting aside storage area for any subsequent OS updates. In addition you may want to read further how OS X and iOS report storage capacity. at How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support

I'd be very interested in knowing your source for this. My understanding was that Apple was planning (but hasn't yet implemented if I recall correctly) a system to delete apps, perform the update and add the apps back.

I am referring to my understanding of the NOW (via an apple source) and you are referring to your understanding of the future..... I would think -- you might want to recheck your source to make certain that you did indeed recall correctly.....

So, does that mean you're not going to answer a legitimate question, which would increase my understanding and tell my your source for your information that Apple is reserving space? Can you post a link to the knowledge base article? The purpose of this forum is to help each other, after all.

An update on what? It's explained in the first response to the initial post. There's nothing to update.

BTW, the real Edward Snowden wouldn't even have to ask.
