Q: iPhone 5 will not AirPrint

Hello Apple Support Communities.  I've got a Samsung wireless printer with AirPrint installed.  I used to be able to print from my iPhone via AirPrint, but now am unable to print.  Phone recognizes the printer, but no go.  Phone says "Preparing...", but nothing happens.  Printer is plugged in, has paper in tray, turned on.  I've tried printing while printer is both in sleep and wake mode. I've also unplugged printer to clear anything in memory.

It does print normally from my Mac.  This is not effected.

The following did print from printer the first time I tried;

Quote

URF ERROR -Incomplete Session by time out

POSITION :  0x2 (2)

SYSTEM : h6fwsim/os_hook

LINE : 1507

VERSION : SPL 5.65 12-23-2012

I'm wondering if it's due to the new iOS 8 update that is the culprit. I've tried AirPrint from an iPad with iOS 8.0.2 and no go on this as well.

Here's the hardware/software I'm using.

iPhone 5;

iOS 8.0.2;

Printer:

Samsung M2875FW with AirPrint

Thank you for any and all suggestions.

    Hello there, timothy62.

    The following Knowledge Base article provides some helpful pointers for troubleshooting AirPrint on your iOS device:

    About AirPrint

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356

    For best results

    • Make sure your software is up to date. For iOS, verify that your device is using the latest version of iOS available and that the app you're printing from is up to date. For OS X, Use Software Update to update OS X and apps you've purchased from the Mac App Store.
    • To use your AirPrint printer with Wi-Fi, the printer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device or Mac, either through bridging, or a direct connection to your Wi-Fi network.
    • AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of an Apple AirPort Base Station or AirPort Time Capsule are not supported with AirPrint. Connect your AirPrint printer to your network using Wi-Fi, or connect it to a LAN port on your AirPort device using Ethernet.
    • Make sure that your AirPrint printer is connected to your network before attempting to print. Some AirPrint printers can take several minutes to join a network after being turned on.

    If you're unable to print

    Check these things if you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found."

    1. Make sure your printer has paper, and enough ink or toner installed.
    2. Make sure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
    3. Make sure your printer has power and is turned on. Try turning your printer off and then back on again to see if it resolves your issue.
    4. Check to see if your printer has any error lights or indicators displayed on the printer's control panel. Check the documentation that came with your printer to clear any errors displayed.
    5. Check with your printer's manufacturer to see if any firmware updates are available for your printer. Check your printer's documentation or contact the printer vendor for more information. A firmware update may be available, even if you just bought your printer.

    Important: Printers not listed in this article are not supported by AirPrint. To search for an AirPrint printer model, use the Find feature of your web browser (usually Command-F) to search the list below.

    Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers,

    Pedro.

    Dear Timothy62,

    I have exactly the same problem as you have, the same printer, the same error messages, with my IPAD 2, i've downloaded iOS 8.0, latter on iOS 8.02 and still cannot print since version 8.0, never had these problems with IOS 7.

    I've gone through Pedro D's process, through iwantgizmos' process, contacted Samsung and all this without success. The only way i can airprint is with Samsung's printing App, but very limited to photos and to printscreens.

    There is an other Apple discussion webpage on the same subject i initiated last September and the problem is not related with Samsung printers only, but with the latest iOS 8 upgrade. The only thing i can suggest is to do like most of us by contacting Apple and complaining, hope to see a bugfix very soon, since no printing for me is a near useless iPAD.

    Here is the link for the other discussion web page :

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/26629666#26629666

    Here is the link to register your problem to the Apple suport center, this is for the iPAD, but you should be able to find the link for the IPhone, probably by replacing ipad.html with iphone.html :

    https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

    Good luck to all !

    Good morning Sam.  My AirPrint has started working as of this morning.  Reason unknown.  It may have been the router, but unclear at this time.

    Hey Sam.  Figured out the AirPrint problem;

    1. clear printer back to factory defaults;

    2. ensure printer is configured to Mac;

    3. in Safari, type in the printer IP address and hit enter.

         -Samsung SyncThru will come up in browser;

    4. select login at the top/right corner and precede to input your ID and Password.

         -if you didn't change it from last time, it will be the default ones you used the first time you did this;

    5. select enter.

    When it prompts you to change your password, do so.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Timothy,

    Problem Solved !!

    Thanks Nick for the advice, not geting any feedback from Apple, as usual, i had wrote to Samsung about the airprint problems, they gave me a feedback mentioning they were going to look into it and they did.

    For averybody having problems with their printer and airprint, my suggestion is to ask help from the printer manufacturer, don't rely on Apple to help you out, a simple comment, good or bad from Apple would always be encouraging.

    Thanks everybody for charing your comments and good luck !

    Sam from Québec City.

    See this discussion trail, quite interresting, this is where in started my chat due to airprint problems since iOS 8 launch.
