iOS 8 update causes keyboard to block text. Annoying!

It sounds like like you might have the split keyboard feature enabled. It is called Split Keyboard in the settings.

If the keyboard is split and covering your text, Pull the two ends of the keyboard together - into the middle of the screen. You can also tap and hold down on the little keyboard icon in the lower right corner of the keyboard and select - Dock and Merge.

Yep I have the same in 8.1 using the standard built-in keyboard on both iPad Air and iPhone 5. Text input is blocked by the keyboard in many apps and websites and it is not possible to scroll the text so that it is visible.

Rotating from landscape to portrait helps a little but even in this mode the keyboard can still get in the way.

OK, I think I have found what my problem was. My keyboard had become undocked but was still positioned in the normal location. I am not sure how this happened as it is not a feature I have ever used.

The solution was to press and hold the hide keyboard button which then gives you the option to dock the keyboard. Weird.

IT Trolls suggestion worked for me: press and hold the keyboard button, then when the pop up menu becomes available slide your finger up to select "undock". Seems strange, but I had exactly the same issues as you and all is now well.

NOw if you can only tell me why the first two characters of a line when entered in this text box for support are capitalized that would be great!

It's a bug with the forum software when used with the iPad (I don't know if it also affects the iPhone). Rest assured it's not an issue with your iPad. There are many of these odd bugs here in the forum that have not been addressed for a long time...some affect the iDevices and others affect the PC/Mac side as well.

Brother i think there is a bug which came in your ipad with the software update so it is better you should wait for the next software update before following the complex points unless they are useful . The next update will most probably fix that keyboard bug ,

I have the exact same problem. Apple says they know of the issue and it SHOULD be fixed with an update. This last one did NOTHING, so I updated to the 8.2 beta. STILL NO F'N FIX!!!! I want my **** money back. This is B.S.!

Gazz and everyone else complaining about this: Demos fix DOES work if you follow the instructions. I have had multiple users calling with this same issue that swear they've changed the settings, but then they don't do this step: Hold your finger on the little keyboard until the menu pops up and slide your finger up to "Dock".
It works, problem solved.

If you're using beta software, you should be posting in the developer's forum. You are a developer, aren't you?

I have the same issue, keyboard covers text input field in Google, and the page does not scroll so I cannot see my typing. Nothing to with split keyboard.

Thanks IT Troll, I was ready to throw my iPad out of the window. I wasnt aware of the undock feature, but it worked first time and now mail and pages are scrolling as they should.
